BTW K5, Fred is an EXCELLENT amp builder....you should have no problems whatsoever with a FRED-Built component!!
I build the amps to drive even the most difficult loads. Down to 2 ohms. That means safe operating area (SOA) protection is disabled. Average current protection is still there via fuses and DC protection is there via Don's board. It is strongly suggested you do not short the outputs while driving the amp!

How do you do that Fred, do you build them differently from Lee, Jer and Perry in some way? How do you disable SOA? Ever have a heating problem or do you just use fans when driving 2 ohm loads?

Active cooling is a definite requirement at 2 ohms.

On the issue of 400 or 700, the 700s are needed by the guys who have been blasting rock n roll for 40 years. You know who you are :D. For the rest of us the 400 is plenty loud.

K-5, the amp should be there tomorrow or the next day. Before powering it up, if you comfortable doing it, take off the faceplate and make sure the four (two on either side of each meter) hold down screw clamps are still in place. If the come loose they can cause major problems. I don't glue them down cause I'm always moving stuff around. Also, I don't use a metal retaining bracket on the bulk capacitors on the left side of the photo because it interferes with the bridge rectifier wiring. Also looks much better :D. Instead I hot glue the capacitors down. Make sure they are still solidly held.

Finally and most importantly, there are hideously dangerous voltages in the amp. Button it up before you power it up. Also, be kind to your ears. I expect they are even more important to you than most of us!
