Understood.... This weekend I'll go over all the solder joints with a magnifying glass and double check the resistor codes against the BOM. It has been a little hairy actually building one from pretty much scratch while the directions are really geared for the guys rebuilding an existing unit. And, cleaning "No Clean" flux off the boards is no fun. I couldn't imagine leaving all that trash on a new board. Spent several hours doing that and I still need to do a Q-tip inspection/touchup.....

What no clean flux did you use Perry? The type I recommend washes off easily with 90% isopropyl

I'm only using 70% Iso.... Sorry, I was taught to use the least harsh cleaning methods due to the age of our shitty ancient military electronics from back in the day. It's cleaning it up good, just taking my time.

What solder and flux are you using?

I recommend the Kester 24-6337 no clean

If you use Kester '44' it is a great solder but a bear to clean up with Isopropyl

I have used these products for years and I never liked the water soluble flux except you could take your circuit board to the sink and use a toothbrush (the wife's) and it cleaned up quick but it flowed crappy and smelled like ass. So I don't use the water soluble stuff anymore. I use this stuff below. Pretty much what you do.

Flux: KESTER 186 ROSIN NO CLEAN FLUX

Solder: Kester 24-6337

I'll switch to the 90% Iso and see if it makes it any easier.

You should use the Kester 245 no clean. It is not rosin based. Rosin is a bear to get off with Isopropyl.

True, but it can't stand up to acetone...

Perry, acetone should not be used AFTER the caps sre installed. Acetone attacs the butyl seals on electrolytic caps...


AND, it really dulls the finish on the boards....
