Maybe... I like the idea of turning up the sensitivity on the pots then finding the right value to insert in series for the 0dB setting. Gotsta get the switch first, then we'll see.

Or Joe'll reply heheh.. :toothy5:

Fuckin' A right, it does LOL.

Need to put "pimpin ass bass" on my tagline lol...
So even though it went kaput, the protection worked as designed?

Yep.. totally independent and dropped that relay out within milliseconds.

Well, got the parts on order.. we're backing up ten yards, but we'll get it. That's why we beat the shit out of them before sending 'em to yas! :thumbright:

Drive it like ya stole it, bro! Any thoughts as to what the culprit may have been?

Well, given that Q7 was blown open 3 ways of Sunday and current through the emitter is only going to drive the base of the driver transistor on the outputs, I'd have to say one of the outputs (perhaps the driver?) shorted.. bum batch? Heck not sure.. but everything will be checked .. all rocks unturned, etc.. .

Ok, here's a quick update.

Replaced all outputs on the right channel (left is fine). Replaced Q7 and the resistor quad that smoked. Double checked Q9, and HERE is where I think the failure occurred as it was short collector to emitter. Replaced that one too.

Powered up, and the right channel was way positive (on the order of going to the rail, basically). Started probing the backplane..

DAYUM

In addition to every negative output gone, the "hit" took out every emitter/current resistor... opened it right up. And the 10 ohm bias resistor for the negative half, and one of the positive resistors!

Well, now we're going to be lifting up the right channel backplane to replace 'em. I believe I have a stash here somewhere.

More tomorrow.. long night, and I'm bushed. But the end is nigh.. Hope to have some "pimpin ass bass" going through it again tomorrow LOL..

WOW - a serious bang here. I've taken out a few components in my time but I never counted how many. Good job in surpassing Lee!

Hopefully you find the culprit and get it fixed before the next smoke test. Good luck Jer.

<elvis mode="">(elvis mode) Why thankyuh... thankyuhverymuch... </elvis>(/elvis mode)

Took a look at the stash here, and it doesn't look like I have the "exact" parts so not chancing it ... status now AWP (awaiting parts)..

I do have equivalents so I might just put them in, in the meantime. Just to see if there may be anything else surprising me.. :laughing7:

Back in Business

After conferring with Lee n Joe, the .22's I have will work fine. Got them in, plus a 10 ohm bias resistor stolen from my 700 kit I'm saving for "Frankenstein", which is a few months off. So, we're looking good again.. I hope. Time to put 'er back together and see...
