I love BIG amplifiers!
PL 700's part of the loudest P.A. system ever

Now you got the right idea.... I need a pair of them lmfao!
Can be dangerous ... Don't you know PL700's were the power horses at the loudest rock performance ever? So what then WOPL 1000's are capable to ...? ;-)

From an old Guinness book of world records 1986, special edition:

"Loudest Pop Group: The amplification for The Who concert at Charlton Athletic Football Ground, London, England, May 31, 1976, provided by a Tasco PA system had a total power of 76,000 watts from eighty Crown DC 300A Amplifiers and twenty Phase Linear 700s (remark -- in the original text it stayed "200s", a typo…). The readings at 50 m (164 ft) from the front of the sound system were 120 decibels."

The decibel scale is logarithmic. For every ten points you go up, it's not twice as loud, it's TEN TIMES as loud!!!!! Exposure to such noise levels is known to cause PSH — Permanent Shift of Hearing or partial deafness.

lost in my own world
I knew it was a beast.. But until you posted all this I didn't realize a 700 was as important for the old shows as it was..they powered some of the best bands ever..

Przem, I am having hell finding anything that fits in the allotted space. I am thinking of going with 14 gauge SO.. with 240 volt mains that would be like having #10 wire on your mains cable. And it would still fit. What do you think...

And I've never seen a 20 amp BR in a 700. Nice power supply caps, but at 11,000uf not much above the stock ones. I have some 15,000uf at 160 volters I'll sub. I have a project that the 11,000 would be just fine in so I'll swap ya straight accross for em. The Br will get a new 35 amp sub. I would say that 20 amp is on borrowed time. Fully loaded into 4 ohms could run right up to that 20 amp rating...

Hi Lee,
I will follow your advice. However I have a brilliant idea :)oops:) - why don't we go for IEC socket WITH fuse holder built-in, which eliminates necessity of having any extra space for the separate / original fuse holder? Here is the Mouser Part #: http://pl.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...-00-02/&qs=sGAEpiMZZMuFYi0ZsYM5P6%2bS4fD28nEi
By doing this way I could keep the mains cable, which is shielded on purpose, as intended.
Possible?

Fantastic! Thank you Lee. Bigger caps = more headroom, I believe. And with more robust BR reliability issues are well addressed indeed.
Again, it's very kind of you...

The IEC socket you sent would fit if I moved the fuseholder, the one in the pic you posted is to big...

Here's another idea. If I take the Aux socket out with a little work the IEC socket will fit there, and the fuseholder could stay...
