A D-500 is the same style as a Ser II, but they bumped the rail voltage to get 500 watts a side out of it.....not a paragon of quiet, and it had a 2 stage power supply and was way more complicated thatn it had to be, but that was quite awhile ago....and a bitch to work on....Ed tells me...

It' about 9 am in Warsaw. What a nice Saturday 'good morning' seeing my baby is so well taken care! In case of amps the feeling is normal I believe... ? Yes, probably only in case of amps ...

As you see the output stage is still original in quasi- comp. topology. The driver board was recapped and most fatigue resistors replaced. Power supply caps were replaced too. DC protection added plus a bit rewiring done as per Don's recommendations. Less hum afterwards. RCA and speaker outputs replaced. If I remember the amp had very low DC - a few mV each channel. BIAS set about a year ago or so.

Sonically in a couple words - LOT's of power and I like it as we all do. Trully driving emotions. But I was missing sound stage dimensions and details a bit - can compare with another PL700II running fully comp. stage with Burr Brown OPA134 on the entirely renovated PL-36 driver board (almost all parts relaced). That other gear sounded much better.

Glad Lee checked data at the project starting point. I am very curious the final result!

Przem, your 700 arrived in very good shape, no damage I can see.... I love the way this amp was packed and shipped. It was similiar to a Cabbage Case , but plastic. I have some oilfield instruments that use a case like this and they are exceptional for protecting what's in it.... a big thumbs up Buddy. I'll have it on the AP after I rig up a power cord...

Thank you Lee. The box used to be a part of US Army equipment. Bought it at local flea market. The seller didn't tell me exactly what was usually inside. Some kinda rocket radio remote steering or so? Had to be rubust for sure. And perfectly well fitted for heavy transformer PL700 chassis! Reasonable price and very solid packaging for the purpose - it costed less than 30 bucks...

One thing I'm curious about is if we see any big diff in power limits with a 240 supply. yeah I know.. transformer's still rated a "x" VA, but still ... ya gotta see something different with half the current required on the primary compared to 120...

Theres not going to be any difference, the transformer will saturate at the same output wattage at the secondaries...240 volt mains mean you can run smaller wire than you have to for 120 using the same load. Up to 20 amps, no difference , after 20 amps, yeah. Like on the PT 2400, at full output you are drawing 36 amps, ergo, the standard 20 amp socket ain't gonna cut it.

Go too watts young man!! Power in = Power out...

Rail voltage is 108.3, no wonder she's a HOTTIE!!!! This amp is definately a she, she talks to me...she's tellin stories Przem, you scoundrel.....

Rail voltage did NOT GO BELOW 94.3........compared to 79 on Jases.....I would love to take this one to max on 4 , but the LED driver is a now obsolete IC. Have a call in to Ed to see if a major disaster at 4 ohm maxout would trash that particular IC...
