WOPL 700 series II build

I always wanted to try a set of 2.3 TL's. I think that is probably the one I would like best out of all the SDA's. I am still sniffing around for a set. I don't think a lot of people know exactly how good the SDA speakers can be. With rebuilt with some mods they are quite amazing.
 
Most of the folks @ Club Polk say the 2.3TL's are the ones to get. Easier to sit it the sweet spot since they're not as tall as the SDA SRS.

Have done all the mods except the re-cap and resistors. Have got them at the house and just finding the will power to get after it.
Sealed the cabinets, metal setted the magnets (very important), Dymnat on all the baskets including the passive, installed the Polk RD0-194 tweets.

Here they are in the back of the Tahoe, made a drive to Maryland to get them.
Very important to ship them laying down, you don't want any magnet shift on the mids.

Not too bad.
Over 90db sensitivity with nominal 6 ohm load for the amp to drive.
They’re spec’d @ 93db sensitivity.
The 700 kicks their butt!
Was going to bi-amp with the 700’s but that would be overkill!

They can take 1,000 watts per and can put out 125db.
Polk recommends min @ 50 watts.
Have never pushed them above 95db…. Well, maybe a couple O times to show off.
 
One reason I didn’t go with the bi-amp is these can only go horizontal and not vertical. Prefer vertical bi-amping.

The gen 4 & 5’s can do vertical bi-amp but that requires what’s called a Drednaught to make that happen.
 
Got all that... "Dreadnaught", restored with clarity caps and the new inductors. I got Larry's rings ( I think its Larry's lol) and the BH-5. Of course the Dynamat. RD0-189 new tweeters. New cables inside the cabs , kimber?? I don't recall. All of the MW are glued, all that shit... SDA-2b's and a set of SDA-CRS 4.1tL, and a set of SDA-SRS2's that ain't had nothing done to them yet. I sold my first set of SDA-SRS2's that were the newer models with the four binding posts on the back. Those were done as far up as I could without trying the tL style mod that they came up with them. They still had RD-0194's in them. Those were some pretty damn good speakers! Dude (Jerry that bought them from me) is running them with a completely restored stock PL-400 that I got some parts from Joe, Lee and Perry and some other folks here on site. (They walked me through restoring it too.. Held my hand I should say, HA HA!). Of course with Don's DC protect board. He's been running the HELL out of them for at least five years now. He likes to turn that shit up loud!! All that restoring shit gets time consuming and expensive with those Polk SDA's... Its worth every second and penny!!! My personal favorites are the SDA-2'bs. I still have them and play them every day with the LASH, WOPL 700 Ser.II.
 
Oh yea, those mods are very time consuming but, the outcome is worth the pain.
That's the other reason I haven't tackled the crossovers yet. My brain is fighting me on the time to do....

Correcting the oh-mage statement on my SDA SRS's.
Mine are the originals (Gen 3) and are not 6 ohm, they are the 4 ohm version. The 6 ohm came with the redesign of the Gen 4's. Gen 5 TL's are also 6 ohm.

Looking back, would have liked to have known about the TL's differences when first looking for the SDA SRS's.
 
Agreed, the third or fourth gens take much smaller caps... But, the MW 6511 ain't easy to find if you got trouble there.... Those SDA-SRS are a thing of beauty. Far as your re-cap goes.... Hell, you will get around to it in your own time. Its not like the caps you got are just shit. They used pretty good stuff from the factory. I personally think that most of the benefits come from the tweet caps and RD0 tweeters. I used some oil filled run caps in my 2b's just like Paul Klipsch (Heresy right) for my MW and I could not be more happy. Wired em up right in the bottom of the cabs. The SDA-CRS got the "high end", high dollar Clarity caps. But not because I put the there. I bought them in Ohio from John. Drove up from Phenix City Al. to get em. WHATS UP LEE!!!!!!!!!!!
