Wood cases

Still fighting Mark. Ridiculous scenario. They must have really pissed somebody off to get all this rained down on them.

So much for American businesses.

Yeah, the way I understand it is any end user/consumer of endangered wood has to be able to prove where they got it from. It also didn't grandfather anything in when enacted. That's ridiculous.

Yeah, the Lacey Act. Supposedly they had violated other county's laws (India, I think) by importing their guitar wood, so stupid of our justice department. They have confiscated $5M worth of Gibson's property and even though no charges have been filed, they won't give back the ebony or rosewood from Madagascar that was obtained legally in 2009.

I would like to see this end well for Gibson, but I don't think it will. Imagine how that wood is being stored?

Probably very carefully, the GSA arranged for the warehousing and the secret service is guarding it :-)

Two weeks ago I could have read that sentence with a straight face, right now I'm bustin up!!!

This is why other countries are getting our jobs because these laws don't pertain to foreign countries and manufactures are sending jobs overseas...instead of green peace they should put on the green thumb. As for gibson there maniscripts stated veneer's which would be totally legal since the wood is already milled in another country where our laws don't go...plus there is no specific size to veneers...
Also EPA destroyed the manufacturing in this country by outlawing everything chemically instead of trying to find ways to reuse or contain, they should be putting companies on inspections. Most of these laws they implement doesn't pertain to our government, like the rockets for the shuttle...they produce 25 years of hydrocarbons and cfc release in one launch...but the fuel and automobiles became the scapegoat for global warming which I think was just a way to increase costs to all the commodities we rely on everyday. the most cost to the middle working class...Think we need a tea party in this country....

US courts interpreting,(not knowing), foreign laws! under the Lacey Act?

The dispute is over Indian Ebony, all completely documented and legal except for this interpretation business. The Indian government "prohibits the export of sawn wood" but does not prohibit the export of veneers, sheets of woods that have already been worked on. The Feds say the wood was falsely declared as veneers because some assembly is still done in the U.S rather than India.
The American Government is hinting to an American company they should outsource more jobs to meet an obscure part of an American regulation the company helped lobby to put in place to insure ethical resources.
Where do these ass's come from...soon we will be outsourcing toilet paper manufacturing...where would they print, made in china?

Sometimes I think it is better to be ignorant. Not knowing these things and just walk away. There are so many things. Like we do have to keep China happy. What if they called their loans? At what time in the years I have been alive would we sell our debt to a communist country? Sugar in the US is twice the price on the open market because of laws that make it so. To help the sugar farmers. If interest rates were to go to a normal level we would see an increase and have inflation. With the price of gas being 4.00 how in the world do we not have inflation? Right now we have a propped up economy. I am sitting here waiting for the prop to fall for one reason or another. Is this our new norm?

Sorry for the rant.

Larrt

No Larry no rant, just right.
The only way we can come back to the norm is for everyone to have enough of this political greed and have a country tea party. Bring back We The People ,,,The country should be called Texas they are there own country controlled by the people.

Just made the decision. Started cutting the purple heart. Need one more clamp and a new saw blade. This one doesn't like this soft wood. LOL

Why can't you miscut??Seems like the blade wouldn't know the difference.

Oh......OK.....  Dontcha hate a smartass first thing Sunday morning??

Larry looks like the wood is 3/4 thick, why don't you biscuit it, can't miss with a biscuit cutter plus its stronger than a dowel....covers more area for strength.

biscuit joiner, sorry larry didnt realize how F*^#%ing expensive they are....not worth it unless you do ALOT of woodworking....
