Pink Floyd at Pompeii arrived today (CD). Blind sided with this: "The legendary performance - 2025 Mix by Steve Wilson".
Had no idea...

On iMax the film looked great. Echoes Part 1 seemed to lack any kind of elevated (enhanced), percussion punch, but after that - it sounded killer.
Now I can audition this audio in the man-cave/office, with more scrutiny...

Gotta say, and this comes from a diehard Rush fan - with more Rush concert ticket stubs in the collection than ANY other act, not even close:

This box set seems like a big cow milking stunt to me. Big!

Geddy needs to get back to work, creating... instead of rehashing.

And the Ai gods crack me up. Welcome to the future:

AI Overview

While the "Rush 50" anniversary box set is a substantial collection, it's not necessarily a "money grab." The set includes previously unreleased material, live recordings, and curated tracks from the band's career. It's a comprehensive celebration of Rush's 50th anniversary, offering a deeper dive into their discography than a typical greatest hits compilation.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Comprehensive Collection:
The set includes tracks from every Rush studio album, live release, and deluxe reissue, spanning their entire career.

  • Unreleased Material:
It features seven previously unreleased tracks, including rarities like "Not Fade Away," "Working Man," and "The Trees" with alternate guitar solos.

  • Live Performances:
The box set also includes live versions of songs, including "Bad Boy" and "Garden Road," which are not available on any studio album.

  • Deluxe Format:
The Super Deluxe Edition includes a 104-page hardcover book with essays, photos, and new artwork by Hugh Syme, along with the music on 4 CDs or 7 LPs.

  • Variety of Packages:
Rush offers different versions of the box set, including a Rush Store exclusive with bonus lithographs, a 4 CD Deluxe Edition, a 7 LP Deluxe Edition, and a Digital Edition.

  • Pricing:
While the Super Deluxe Edition is more expensive, it offers the most comprehensive package, including the music, the book, and the artwork. There are also more affordable options available.

  • Fan Appreciation:
The box set is a way for the band to celebrate their history and engage with their fans, offering them a valuable and in-depth look at their career.

Ultimately, whether the Rush 50 box set is considered a "money grab" depends on individual priorities and preferences. If fans are willing to pay for a comprehensive and well-curated collection of Rush's music, then the price point might be justified. However, if fans are looking for a more affordable option, the four-CD Deluxe Edition or the Digital Edition are available.

What a joke!

I set the WOPL 700b time machine to 1953/1955 today in the Jazz genre (Cool Jazz and Bop).
Pulled these two debut albums out. You’ve heard me say it many times before but the WOPL Dual Mono boards make my older MONO albums shine! It’s profound. The vocals from Ruth Price are stunning, but what really shines is Chet Bakers’ horn, it is crystal clear, and Russ Freeman’s piano sounds like he is right in front of me, front row seat. Never ceases to amaze me. Thanks again Joe!

Really nice recording of a young Chet Baker.
