Paul Rodgers & Simon Kirke from Free, Mick Ralphs from Mott The Hoople. I saw these guys in '74 when they toured this album, great record & great show

That is annoying!

I have also read accounts of the HX-S being troublesome. I think that is just the nature of the beast. Recording with tape never runs smoothly 100% of the time.

These cats are a Hungarian band, they don't sing in English but it sure sounds an awful lot like Graham Bonnet eh? Great album, the lyrics are secondary to the music to me anyway

It was definitely a tape shell or binder lubricant problem. Maybe even a warped reel on the takeup side of side b. As more tape is gathered up on the take up reel the torque decreases therefore reducing the impact of the faulty shell\reel on the overall stable transport of the tape path/mechanism itself. That deck has never skewed a tape no matter old or used the tape being used. So I can directly blame the fault to the tape/shell itself.
I understand what you mean re tape recording not being smooth all the time. The amount of times I have re recorded a tape due to bias or record level settings not being optimal is quite common.

Now have a left channel problem on the Nak....have to isolate, receiver, TT or cartridge???? Don't give a shit if it's the receiver, I'd have a problem losing my Dual 510 though.
 
I managed to get my phone to play 24bit/96khz flac files. Been using some entry level sennheiser over ear headphones and they sound great. Can even detect the very slight rumble coming from the turntable when there is no music playing. Been very much enjoying the vinyl just purchased transferred to high resolution digital form. I get several hours of listening at work and it helps to ease the pain of being away from home and the wopl. The first thing I do when I get home is power up the wopl to let it warm up. Even if I'm not going to use it for an hour or two. It always sounds better the next day after a good run. But it never sounds bad even when cold. Love that wopl.

Your correct Brother, crazy money. This copy was in the nutop collection just dropped off to me from NC. I sold it on AK yesterday in fact for $185 shipped which is a bargain considering it's minty mint and they go for more. The owner paid $30 I think so he was pretty happy with the return
