Daft Punk - Random Access Memories - Vinyl

Transferring onto a new mid to late 80's TDK HX-S 90 Chrome Tape, this is the first of these that I have tried and they are better than the TDK SA-X's when it comes to albums that use deep bass and crispy treble. Huge call that, but my JVC certainly likes them better than SA-X. Although I would not hesitate to use an SA-X either, both are great tapes but the HX-S has the edge. Peaks set to +3db, Dolby B

Top-level TDK Type II's: TDK SA, TDK SA-X, TDK SA-XG, TDK SA-XS, TDK HX, TDK HX-S

The HX-S is a superb tape. Excellent for dynamic music.
All was going well until side B, the first two minutes I had tape skewing and my JVC V661 has never done that to any tape. So I had to start the recording 2 minutes into the tape which is where it settled down back to normal. I have read on TH that other people have had similar problems, one mentioned that there was some shredding problems and another said that it was dirtying the tape path. It didn't dirty my tape path though. I think TDK may have had some shell issues with these which may be why they discontinued them. The shell seems like the typical high quality TDK to me so not sure where the problem is exactly.

All that aside, when functioning properly, I agree its a very dynamic tape and does give the SA-X a run for its money.

Guitars are awesome. Great to finally have a live recording of all these songs. Vocals unfortunately arent all that hot. Dave is a little crazy with that shit on this particular set. Its a shame too, first live album containing the majority of these songs.

I recently seen a couple video's from a VH show where they played a few songs that were never played live before, or hadnt been played since the early 80's, Dave nails these songs. I wonder why he would choose this particular show to be the live album. Eddie claims they left the decision up to Dave, as they didnt feel like listening to 150 concerts they had done. Im sure there had to be better sets than this. That said, it shows there was not a whole lot of correction used in the studio afterwards to touch up the sound.

Always learning!
Speaks and TT moved into a larger room. Temp set up running a Nakamichi Receiver 3 to the 808's....not near enough power but I have tunes.

Dylan, Tomita, Emerson Lake & Palmer and some Maria Muldaur sampling being done. throwing on Dark Side for a kick.
