... and I've listened to that entire side like 3 times today and I can't fathom what you might consider to be IMD.

There are a whole lot of percussion layers and such, some of it kind of subtle, so maybe that's what you hearing and interpreting as some kind of distortion.
 
It could be my copy of the disc too Tony. I haven't tried your disc yet...
 
My listening den is 19 by 15. Carpeted (thank God...) but taking my 77ES up close to its limits with the B&W's is a standing wave mess...
