an HPB find this weekend. A favorite Rush title, even with the pretentious lyrics or maybe because of them? First time listening to this album in the LP format.
 
My NEW used Pioneer SK-71 boombox, radio section (she's a fixer but she's SWEET)!

I'm always interested in the deadwax stampings and you rarely highlight them! This one is a bit dark for me to find but I think it's around 10 o'clock? Some stampings are rare and impressive and all are (usually) the signature of a master craftsman!

agree, they are good to look for as many are the calling card of the great mastering engineers. Sorry but I don't attempt to photograph the etchings with my poor skills and simple hand-held point&shoot camera. I can barely get a steady, focused shot of a Record label using the camera's Text setting!

Not sure what's wrong but the job was clearly not well done!
 
Dead wax markings are the manufacturers markings in the dead space between the end of the song and the label. Their appearance can be used to authenticate an item, verifiy the pressing edition and/or identify a specific release.
It depends on the label, manufacturer etc.. some are etched, some are stamped.. just because a pressing uses different deadwax markings doesn't mean one or the other is counterfeit or a repro, it can vary substantially.
Some vinyl on rare occassions bears no dead wax markings, and is still authentic.
A collector generally bases their real/bootleg assumption on a combination of label printing/condition, vinyl weight (something you can only do in person), vinyl condition, and seller reputation.

Learn something new every day. HMMMM I thought all records had it. Most of mine do.
