A resistor is actually doing nothing but lowering a signal couple of db, at least what I can see but it was worth to try.
Interesting is that I have tested now white noise from Audio tester (loop) and readings are different than those with your CD. Conclusion is that sound card is not doing what it should as it should. Tried even to disable onboard card in bios but still the same.
I'll try to disconnect external card and enable onboard and see if that makes the difference.
