It might also have something to do with how I have things set up through my pre-pro. I guess that my Sherwood Newcastle P-965 processor is getting a little technically "old". Maybe I am better off going analog out to the pre and letting the players DAC do the D to A conversion? Or am I better off using a coaxial digital connection..and letting the P-965 do the D to A ? My SACD players are probably as old as the Preamp, so maybe it's time to upgrade? But, the SACD itself is as old as both of the components.. What is the best way? And are we talking stereo anyway, or 5.1? The Oppo is 32 bit I notice, so what are you using as a processor, the Oppo? and running in stereo?

Analog all the way after the Sabre D/A in the SACD player. Don't put any other crap in the channel Sutton.

Digital conversions are fine for watching a movie but not for serious stereo playback. Get a pre-processor that allows pass-through mode. Most of the surround processing in pre-processors isn't worth the powder to blow them to hell, IMO they even do a poor job at rendering movie soundtracks.

I see that the Oppo uses the new 9018 asynchronous chip. I've read about it...but again, it's all in the implementation of that chip as well, and it sounds like Oppo got it right in the 95. I guess there is something to upgrading your sources to the latest and greatest. Just when you think it's safe to go back in the water..........

Lee knows my saying on this topic Sutton, "old digital is just old digital" :)

I am pondering the upgrade to the 105D as it gets rid of the fan in the player.

I think from what I read, the P-965 may have a 7.1 bypass mode Sutton. That would allow you to use the better DAC in the player than in the Pre-Proc.

The Onix isn't going anywhere. I like it way more than any other source I have. I'm just trying to see if I can hear a difference in a CD and an SACD. As far as a CD player, there is no better than the Onix. I think it makes CD quality outstanding. I do have to see if you can fix my remote though. I think there is a bad solder joint somewhere in her. Even if you used an external DAC, the Onix transport is still one of the best ever made. I just looked, and the CD-10 is still being made..

As long as I've had the P-965, I still haven't figured it out. I have to pull the manual every time I try to change a setting, and call Kevin and get him to help me. It's pretty nice, but it is not user friendly. AT ALL. The 700B should be here either tomorrow or Wednesday, so I am going to rock out...

Oh yeah, Lee....what are the two different outputs on the PL 3300 !! ? One is marked SW and the other UNSW. The one marked UNSW has developed a short, and I'm using the UNSW one..should I try to operate?

The 700B arrived and it is awesome.

Totally awesome.

And the latest improvements Joe has made take the amp to another level.

Now it retains the warmth of the 400, and has enough sweet power to drive any speaker pair to levels you probably only need for outdoor festivals.

It is so sweet and pure and powerful.

I think a WOPL 500 may be all the amp you will ever need, but a WOPL 1000 may be all the amp you'll ever want.

It is truly outstanding.

I really think it could be put up against any amp ever made.

I think it would be interesting to see a comparison with one of the esoteric high dollar multi tens of thousands of dollars Stereophile amps. I know it would blow any competitor away.

Jer's work is a thing of beauty.

Beautifully put together, and with every attention to detail.

Absolutely fantastic.

I am thrilled.

I just wish all my amps were the latest generation with backplanes and the latest PCB, and definitely fully comp.

Gotta go listen some more!

I took the bottom plate off and doused the switch with DeOxit...and no change. I will pull the amp and try to see if the bracket is holding the meter too tightly. Do you want pictures of the switch? The meter? Or anything else? I'll do it today. The meter does swing with static electricity...when I tap on it, but doesn't move with power...so I don't know that it is "in a bind" from the bracket...but I'll pull her out and take the face off...

It sounds so good, I LOVE it...sounds like a fully comp 400 with twice the power!!! SWEET...

Man that's awesome. Yeah I have a rev D board all ready for "Frankenstein" but now I am debating on an E (ey Joe LOL.. heh).

Anyway, man it almost seems positive the switch is the cause. Yeah, take pics.. also if you see how it works and can tighten on the contacts (gently push down with a flathead?).. that may do it.

Be back later.. gotta do some errands.

Damn, the 1000b sounds so good. I have it along with the 500FC (which Jer also built) and the 500QC (that I cobbled together) running my 5.1 system, and it is utterly fantastic. With KHorns, La Scalas, and Linus Arrays and my Lambda Acoustics sub, it is really top shelf...I think I am getting bass down to 1 hz...The only thing I could use is another sub-woofer. I'd probably demolish my house. The pictures have already fallen off the walls...

Movies are much better than any theater. Kevin had me out to his house a week or so ago, and we watched a concert he had recorded, and it was unbelievable. It made me come home and set my system up again. As we have the same system, with the same components, and now the same speakers, my system can now compete..but it is time for one of us to get something new...

We have always had the same systems...probably for the last 15 years anyway..

Thank you Jer for building these fantastic amps for me..
