I read it so the next question was about changing the resistors. He said he does. John said he uses the same deadner as I did. Should or doesn't affect it. I won't be sending the sorbothane. I can put it to use.
To say that lad is OCD would be a large understatement. Not even halfway through it yet. Ya know Johnny D seemed pretty sharp on this input impedance question.. Wonder where he got off to....
What HMMMMM? Oh I found the hum. Listening to some Santana on Sirrus. No hum except on the phono. Got better bottom end. More robust sound. Lee how many hours on the tubes. The Carver has lost its standing in the hierarchy. LOL Do you have the drawings. On the phono amp I was getting distortion certain midrange passages. Things I have never heard before. More to come at a later date.
Well I tried different gains and things. Next it to tie all the grds together and see. If I remember right you want to keep AC and DC grd.s separate. If I am wrong on my assumptions let me know. Can I run the case grd. to the grd on the IEC socket? Have to find my patch cords. To do the jumpers and see what is up with it. The distortion was bad on Diana Krall in the mid ranges. Everything else sounded great.
And like I said, wish i could have cured the hum. Lost an opportunity to learn something vital. Yep still have all the papers it came with. I'll get em on the way.
You can just email. I cut the input wires and still had the hum. I grounded a lot of places and hum was still there. By the time I started it. I was trying to solder on that board. Wasn't much in the mood to troubleshoot much . Was a tad upset. And I was trying very hard not to get lit up like a Christmas tree. LOL With the tubes you may get a little tingle voltage wise. LOL
I have to say this is a wicked preamp. I'm listening to a less than 75.00 system with out the pre. It sounds rather good. It may replace the pre part of the Creek. I have a pre in and a pre out. I watch Bill O'reily sometimes. He was talking about Christmas Trees. People are saying it is a religious symbol. Just skipped Stairway To Heaven again. Working on the pretop again. Learned some lessons. Have to slow down relax and just do it right. Don't try to do it all in one day. Did 2 base coats yesterday. Just shot one this morning. Found some cheap pigment at a boat supply house. Wax also. Got enough for 4 gal.s. Just call me rambling wreck. Would be a good description.
Well the top is looking good. 6 coats of hand sanded black lacquer. Now to polish it up. I can take all imperfections out on the next steps. Will sand down and start rubbing.
