yes it did Larrt, thank you, I got it now. See, that site of his is for folks who know more about this than I do. As far as building stuff from scratch " it is identicakl in hookup as any other volume control" is not totally accurate, I've seen but not hooked up quite a few.

Lee, Usually the chokes go between the first and second filter caps in the B+ tube power supply. If its a tube rectifier the first filter cap should not be more than 40uf. I have not seen a choke in a tube preamp before but I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Keep it away from any low level signals because it is an inductor. Also there may be a jumper between the 1st and 2nd filter cap if a choke is not used, if there is it must be taken out. The choke should be the only thing between the 1st and 2nd filter caps. Look at a schematic of a Dynaco ST 70 or Mark3 and you will see how it is wired. Hope this helps.
