Skynyrd77's Thank Godamighty , Finally My Own WOPL Build Thread!!

Heard some sweet sounds wafting across the lake last nite. Was it "Jessica"? Only about 60mi as the crow flys!

There was a report on the Weather Channel about some inexplicable soundwaves that crushed a tornado from forming :evil4:

Yep guys that was me!!!! I had the whole Midwest fucked up yesterday .it was like some Moses shit as soon as the plug hit the wall. I had visions of things to come also!.

If you had some K's they would have heard you in Canada.

Have you noticed the transients being less compressed? That's what I notice between the 400's and 700's.

This puzzles me, I detect no compression with the FC 400s but then again, I have yet to hear a FC 1000. The FC 400s have an almost airy transparency and the transients are tight and dynamic. Is that what you mean Lee?

Yep. Up to about 200 watts, then I think I can detect compression of the big transients. Not clipping per se. But:
2: close.

I'm still not sure what transients are. But I've pushed her pretty hard and have not got to a clipping or any kind of jumbledness of sound if that's what you mean. And when I hear Ron say compression to me I think of robust. And the sound is way more detailed and way more robust in approach. To me everything sounds heavier but with nice color. I don't get transparent. This amp adds color just by the image and detail it puts out.. This prob makes no sence but I'm tryin lol

Transients are a big crescendo or loud , temporary drum blast, or louder than normal stuff. Thay can get clipped or compressed(wrong term i suppose) as an amp runs out of headroom...and I can run out of headroom on the K's with a 400, not so with a 700, haven't even got close yet...

IC. On Jessica all that stuff is great. I haven't reached a point of that yet. On Bertha I can use her up. And real high volumes I always backed off because it was hitting what I called distortion. So IMO on Bertha she hits the wall kinda easy. But Jessica until I get bigger speaks I don't think I'll have that prob. There is a huge diff on sound between this FC and the audition amp also. I nvr hit the distortion point on it but it did lose some at extremely loud volume levels. This amp stays together at all points. It really let's this pre show itself and unleashes what my speakers were designed around.... Ask peewee . My speakers sound like a new pair from yesterday morn lol. Like I said earlier. There's no sutle diff in any dept. it is a whole new world now !!!

When your amps go to 10hz, it's really nice when your preamp can too. That's why we spent the time on getting the low frequency response of that pre DOWN....

Yeah because there like a team now. With Bertha it just wasn't there. They didn't match well together . But Jessica and the 3600 work awesome together. The eq is back out of the mix. Don't even need it now at all. That in itself impressed me to no end.

That means Bertha did not have a 470uf in C6's place. Can you take a pic of Bertha's board, ya got me curious now. That was a way early conversion...
