Russ' Phase Linear 700B Going Fully Comp!!!!!!!

I think I could pick out which is which in a blind test but I'd hate to risk money on it. I'm glad to see you came to the same conclusions about em. I'm NOT nuts....either that or you are too....

I can pick out the 700, but not sure if it is the amp or the inbound wiring from the pots that is the difference. Not really a fair test because of the wiring differences between the 400 and 700. The 400 has 4" of really fine quality mil spec Teflon shielded on it whereas the 700 has about 2.5 feet of low quality shielded when you account for the down and back from the pots.

The high end is a slight bit more subdued in the 700. The A25s have very sensitive Seas tweeters in them and that is where the subtle difference shows up.

Yep, same here, don't know of subdued is the right wird for me. Less distinct...

Joe, can you provide the part number and a source for the mil-spec teflon shielded cable you use?

RD, he probably didn't buy it, kinda like the oilfield, surplus left on location...

Ah ha, I get it - "the right place at the right time store". Damn, those are hard to find.

800.00 worth of caps....

Some years ago I purchased a mil surplus instrumentation chassis from a firm on Ebay that sells old surplus gear. It came with a large amount of Teflon wiring in it, most of it with the mil numbers on the wire. I stripped the chassis clean of all wire and resold the bare chassis on Ebay and basically got the stockpile of wire for free.

The shielded coax is a nice skinny white Teflon jacketed wire with a nice Teflon core and the woven silver plated copper braid. Unfortunately there are no markings on the coax that I can see.

Personal stash, got a lot of projects going. hell, that one box on the left is for just one amp.

Finally got Russ's 700B pried out of Timdalf's hands... Put the new rack handles on it, It did'nt have any. E-bay was very good to me this month....Polished her up. Adjusted the bias one more time. One last shakedown before it goes in the cabbage case.

really hate to see this one go, she was the first....FC 700 in the mancave, DAMN what an amp. Almost have virgin ears. The K's have been silent for 10 days...JESUS!! They sound good...

When you change out a 400 for a 700 YOU KNOW IMMEDIATELY, even at low volume the headroom is amazing...............DAYAM.... post partum depression again...

Looks like a big ass room he has there !

Indeed!

Is that a garage or shop? Would love to hear 901's paired up with K's. Heck even just hearing some K's would be a great time.

He calls it the "shed"....

Excellent.

When I lived up north we had a massive garage... It was an old canvas boat top shop. We turned it into our playground. We also called it the shed.

That's where he stores his boar roo, just above the trout pond. Half the rime I call him he's feeding the trout. Got an invite to do some steelhead fishing. Might just do that..

I thought that was a boat in the picture with the wd40 and roll of speaker wire.
