You do realize that the RSD t-shirt you get free with your purchase will have that Ambassador logo on it ... :laughing8:

No way I could get to Boise in the first place, even with the money at hand. The last time I was there it was to visit my kin and family graves, last summer.

Miles Davis is releasing another box set??? I have the 10" boxset still sealed from this past RSD. Seems like that Dogfish poster can be ordered from liquor stores that carry Dogfish ale? I bet the distributer could get them

I don't know what's up coming for RSD but Ben mentioned the Metallica demo. I am assuming that it's No Life til Leather???? Or is it Metal Up Your Ass? Either way, I would like the record
How was the Miles set, Ron? I have not heard it yet and hope not to get shut out again this year as I ordered 4 copies of last year's set and got the big 0. Good to know about the poster and may need to stop into the liquor store and see if I can't work something out. I will request a few copies of the Metallica on Monday.

Hey Tony, I've heard of new releases on cassette lately, is this a collectible thing? I mean I can't imagine anything more than mid-fi sound from a prerecorded cassette, most of the new Lps can barely pass my quality tests.

I've seen that Big Mama Thornton's Jail album is gonna be an RSD release.
Janis Joplin covered one of her songs, Ball And Chain, on her Cheap Thrills album.
I'd like to hear Big Mama's original version.

A recurrent theme here...

Is quality truly dead??
I believe the Metallica release is more for nostalgia. Metallica started out by circulating copies of that demo tape. So its a just a throw back to their origins.

While I would like to get a cassette copy, it would likely remain sealed and not for listening. The original No Life Till Leather, demo tape is the holy grail of Metallica collectibles.

A vinyl copy will be acquired for listening.

Even on good days, prerecorded tapes were only ever mid-fi IMHO.

Factory made tapes are duplicated en masse at very high speed, usually all four tracks at the same time with a four-gap head. Given the width of the tape head gaps coupled with the high speed duplication process it's no wonder that they sound bad. High frequencies suffer most in the process. The same holds true for all pre-recorded tapes, even open reel tapes, with one very specific exception: pre-recorded video tapes can't be duplicated with a linear run due to the helical scanning head- the tracks are diagonally oriented.

Do you mean quality across all formats?

I don't think so. I would however, single out prerecorded tape as being especially deficient in the SQ stakes.

If anyone is looking for the Prestige 10" Miles Davis box set from last RSD, I just posted it in BST here on Phoenix. I need to get to NY asap. The set is sealed mint

Ben, I have not heard it since it's the only copy I have and it's still sealed. Reviews are quite good from what I have read and I really wish I did not have to sell it but I have to do what I need to do

I am asking exactly what I have into it since an AK member had to get it for me

It's $10, so I am picking it up. A pittance of coin to actually find out how it plays.
And since it comes with digital download of all the tracks, I can add those to my library for portable playback.

Seems like a win-win to me, for the price Stumeister ...

Thank ya.

Whenever it was, I was nowhere near it as usual.

I DID get records today in the mail tho! Fogface1956 on TH and eBay sold me three Yes LPs (Relayer, Drama and Tormato) and two Jon Anderson and Vangelis LPs (Short Stories and The Friends Of Mr. Cairo) and then he sent some old and new blank cassettes (a 3M AVX 30, 3 1991ish TDK D60s and a Man In Chair Maxell XLII 60 as well as an old wrapped Memorex dB 60) and THEN.....

A BASF DP 26 LH 2400" reel recorded at 7.5 IPS with Yes - We Make Believe, a combination of Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe demos, stuff left off Tormato and Tony Kaye's original Badger lineup from a BBC performance...WOW, and in a BASF plastic box and with some really nice graphic work for labels.

Who's heading out today? I will be heading down to Bluestreak at some point. I was there last night as he was closing, to set up some scaffold that I borrowed. They are having bands down there today and the store has limited floor space but high ceilings. So he wanted them off the ground. Should be petty cool. For my troubles I was given the No Life Till Leather cassette.

This No Life tape is definitely the best sounding release of this, at least until the vinyl comes. All other bootleg versions I had come across online over the years, seemed to be copies of copies. Quality was pretty sad on these up till this release. Last night I sat and listened to it, while watching Montreal take game 2 against the Senators, and having a couple beer.

Nice score on the cassette! Is the vinyl version of this on your wishlist and did your shop get any copies?

I was under the impression vinyl was to come at a later date. I dont think he brought in any copies on vinyl if its around yet. I will definitely be looking for one when they do come out.
