phase linear 400

The PL14 was a mainstream board Gene, more of them in PL400s than any thing else for the Series 1. They are all basically the same but over time they figured out how to make them cheaper and cheaper. The PL36 is the pinnacle of the low cost efforts at PL.
And wont ya know that is exactly what is in this series II PL 400 I bought the other day.

Has anyone been crazy enough to add a second transformer to one of these yet? And another pair of main capacitors?

Basically, do the full "dual-mono" mod? It should be able to handle quite a bit more abuse that way, I would think...

But, perhaps it is better to just convert them to mono amps, similar to how I did my Counterpoint amps?

Just thinking out loud, which is usually both scary AND expensive...

Something really good...

Presenting... The WO 1kM

1000 watt (8 ohms) monoblock amps! In time for Christmas?

Can we do that with only 120VAC (or less) supply?

I put in and checked the rest of the OPT . Bought a few bias transistors just in case. I am thinking of just buying the e bay kit for 33 bucks that has all the driver transistors and all in one little kit and re capping the board. Putting it all back together and see what burns.

I found a thread over at AK where some dude had put together all of the stock board upgraded / recommended parts. He said that some of the info came from Don himself but now I cant find the thread so I guess all back stock. I can tell you for a fact that R112 and R1 are toast. Hell R1 reads 7.82K ohms.

Kits are cheaper now, not a bad ideal (sometimes a shot gun approach is just quicker) are the outputs good I cant find your thread w the Pic of the Board I remember some bad traces? do you have the Link?
