If the Nak tech can work on a CR-4, he can work on a NAD 6300, it's almost the same mechanism.
yeah the Nakamichi tech said he was not working on anything but Naks. I don’t know what the difference would be.

Very nice.Besides a good tape path cleaning for the capstans and pinch rollers, it will be up to the technician to remedy the tape skew.
When I get a "new" deck, my sacrificial tape for testing is a pre-recorded Michael Bolton - and it has lasted a long time. Damn!

It's good to see your NAD 6300 arrive and in action. I have a few vintage Marantz components I've been collecting for an all-Marantz stereo system - excluding speakers.

Sorry to hear that. Is the deck's capabilities of real interest to you, though? If so, I'd consider getting it fixed and ask the seller to contribute to the repair. Bird in hand and all that as its appearance is good...
Hi, yes and that’s exactly what I’m trying to weigh out.
With the limited experience I’ve had with the 6300 I don’t think it sounds as good as my A&D GX-Z9100. Of course that could change if it had a good service, but what’s it going to cost to get it in good working order is the question. I’m thinking the motor rebuilt, and full service is probably going to be in the neighborhood of $500, and possibly more.
My Z9100 gets a bad rap on some of the tape deck sites, as it’s basically an Akai deck, but my experience differs, it’s performance is pretty spectacular in my opinion...
99.85% of the internet reviewers of this crap have never recoreded a live performance and done an A-B test of the recording to be able to have any authority whatsoever.
A recorded should record, faithfully, the original material.
This is exactly what Mark Levinson went through so much trouble to make his own recordings and cut his own records so that he KNEW that what was being reproduced sounded like the actual live recording he did.
This is the brilliance of Mark that so many fail to understand.
Not necessarily taint my opinion, but I think that I’m a little soured on decks with this transport in it. I mean how can you really buy one unless you know that the reel motor problem has been taken care of? This is more aimed people like me that do not do their own work on their electronics. I mean I can do simple maintenance, and I’ve been messing with stereo equipment a long time, but I am electronically not capable, and I learned a long time ago that if you don’t know what you’re doing you don’t mess with it.I hope you are successful with a full refund. But, it does taint your opinion of ever getting another NAD 6300.
Nando.
If it's giving you trouble right out of the gate, which this one did, it's definitely not "Serviced" which means it's not as advertise. If you were to open it up and start messing with it, it's pretty much yours from that point on. Cleaning the heads and rollers doesn't count. Don't piddle around with it any more and request a refund. If he balks at that, tell him you'll notify paypal or ebay or however you paid as there should be buyers protection and see what he says. And then do it if he doesn't cooperate. Also, since it's not as advertised, he has to foot the return shipping bill.
