Model ONE Build - S/N 0005 & 0006

All power up testing completed without issue and playing music on the bench.

Even with modest speakers at my bench, the sound is noticeably more tight and detailed in the bass.

Joe has created one special amp with this project... I could not recommend more, and I'm only using a Bluesound Node and RCA inputs at the moment.

Can't wait to get this in the main listening room for the real test (after the wife leaves the house...).

Eric were you able to do the real test on the mains system with an absent wife?

Not yet unfortunately, family home for the holidays. I’ve been working on assembling all the PCBs for amp 0006 while listening to amp 0005 next to the bench.

Both kids departing back to college today, so hopefully I can get some quality time with this monster in the main system soon.

A Fed X guy once told me to never put a "fragile" label on anything.
Apparently the look for them and the challenge is to break it !

The exact same thing happened 10 or so years ago when I took a very well packaged TEAC open reel deck to FedEx for shipping. It was going from Vancouver, BC to Montreal, Quebec.

I asked for some "Fragile" stickers and was that told they no longer provide them. The clerk said that the reason was if a packege was identified as "fragile" it became a target and was a near gurantee that it would be purposely handled as roughly as possible.

Very stable power supply at +/- 112.5 VDC.

I have yet to observe the rail voltages dip much below 111 VDC when playing aggressive music. Incredibly stable and stiff power supply, supports the noticeable improvements in bass transient performance.

Getting ready to wrap this one up and ship out to Lee in a Cabbage case that arrived today.

After waiting for a few more days :-)

Eric,
Are the K1 and K2 relay lamps illuminated whenever the amp is under power?
Just wondering if there is an access panel on top to see this after everything is buttoned up?
I see the 3 positions for input voltage 120v, Vacation, and 240v......is it that easy, and what is the "Vacation" position for?
Thanks for posting progress.

The relay lamps illuminate when the relays are energized. Not visible once the lid is in place.

It is not that easy. That switch is for the low current auxiliary power supply which is always on unless the switch is moved to the Vacation position. In that position, everything is off and it will not power up at all. The heavy duty change from 120 to 240 is by moving a couple of jumper straps on the main terminal strip.

I’ll keep it as long as Lee allows…

Hopefully we can get the last few updates in before shipping.

Eric, I think you'll find I am one of the more patient people you'd run into. Long as i know what's going on , I'm cool. ..
If there is a gap in updates you can send er on...

I can probably test that hypothesis...
