Re: Larry's 700B

No Larry they are not broken, but the factory ones have a hard time swallowing #16 wire. I have some gold Dayton 5 ways, just wondered if you wanted something different.

And who was the guy that won Daytona, never heard of him.

Web- yep its gonna be way sweet, with some of the last Blackgates known to man going in almost guarantees it. There are some non-factory resistors in series with some diodes that have never seen before. Added to the board by unsoldering one end of the diode and joining the resistor in the air while the opposite end of the resistor goes in the old diode hole. This is a 14B version of the PCB and I've worked on a bunch and this addition is way out there. I'm studying it hard. This amp came off the street almost kicking my tricked out Spec2 to the curb, it deserves some serious "what the hell is going on" time.

Lee are you a member of any of the Carver forums? I have heard of that mod in one of them. I don't go often. I just remember it some where in the back of my mind I have read about this mod. Could it be part of a different DCV mod? The diodes keeping the dc from going to the speakers. You really don't want to know what I paid for that amp. It was a make me an offer. I'm a cheap bastard.

Re: Larry's 700B

No a little more than that. It was the cheapest one listed and I got it for less than he wanted. I paid 400.00 for it. With shipping. Did you hear the pop when you turn it off? Can you fix the meters?

Re: Larry's 700B

The meters on the PL stuff was always sluggish compared to others of its day. I'll see what I can do though. They seemed a little slow even for PL. The pop is the PS caps discharging through the front differential pair which is what they're supposed to do. I'll match up a couple pairs and replace them. That's all you can do for it on the 14a board.

Don't buy it to send it. I don't think my CD player has a digital out.

Re: Larry's 700B

Tell me before you buy from them. I get it cheaper. I am a wholesaler through them. Plus the WBT you got is 3% and the solder I have is 4% and it cost the same except I have a 1 pound spool.

Not giving you heck; but if I can save you money it is better for me to do that. Good pics. Yes that thump drove me crazy. I really appreciate this. Can't wait to rattle some windows. LOL

Re: Larry's 700B

If you'll look it is 4%, and I needed some anyway. Had to listen to it again after I swapped the 220mfd with the factory stock 47mfd in the C3 position. Those Blackgates are amazing. I'll get the rest of the caps and the front diffs matched and put in today and give another listen. Definately more headroom than my Spec2's. This is going to be interesting. Especially with the two from California coming this week, then a head to head is in order.
