Life is short, so take your time
Men, Has anyone had problems when turning on a PLWO 700 with 22000uf caps of tripping the 20 amp circuit breaker. After resetting the breaker its fine. Tried a different 20 amper, same thing. The 10 amp fast blow fuse does not blow. Put a 30 amp breaker and # 10 wire in and no problems. My amp meter shoots up well over 35 amps on start up with the caps fully discharged. a lot of inrush current.

Yeh, I had the same issue, but mine was with the line fuse..so now have time delay 8 amp fuse. Had the same issue when I would load my crown with the maggies...would always take out the 20 amp circuit breaker so I rewired my room and bench with a 10 gauge feeder and a 30 amp circuit breaker and 5-20 recepticals.
My 700 inrush was 32 amps, get that meter spinning!! WHEEEE! :)

Those pieces you are looking for you can get at a electrical supply house, they are light duty girder clips...it is hammered on the beam or angle iron, they use them for communication wires..and hanging lights in warehouses.GirderClips[1].jpg[/attachment:14n1c81e]
They make so many sizes of those so you will have to physically see the size you wanted..they have them so small, for sheetmetal...

Ground clips are used to attach a ground wire to the side wall of a switch or outlet box. You have to find a small screw and nut to pass the opening though.

That's the one John. Maybe not perfect for the application, but it's what i came up with at the time.

BTW John. Thanks for recognizing that number on the knobs. I posted that pic of the bag and part number hoping it would trigger that reaction. Been looking for some appropriate replacement knobs off and on for awhile. When I got to that sack in Larrt's SP-12 kit, had tro throw em on and look. They went very well with the PL look.. I've found out you CAN NOT predict what a knob will look like till it's on.

Hi Lee
Glad those were the clips..also glad those knobs went with the look of the original PL, I'll keep my eye's open since I am always on the electronic sites looking for replacement parts and if I see anything beneficial I will post pics and where they can be obtained.
A while ago found a company that actually has meters that fit the PL, think it was Hoyt, and weschler instruments.
Are you putting in Dons DCP board? Should take the meter wires and go to outputs on DCP board, works great no more needle slamming..
Going to make a rack that will hold fans to heatsinks will post pics along the way..

Those clips are made by Raco, electrical supply house have them or Home shithole and possibly Lowes but they are in the electrical section, possibly might be in screw section in the draws they have for specialty items....I like the girder clips because they have the tab for the bolt mounting and they are easy to get off, will locate mini one and post pic with bar for fan mounting..

Did you check the thread where we had a mass fan building?? Dr. Lucitt and I were brainstorming one weekend and came up with some pretty cool stuff. The meters would be a godsend. Post a link and I'll get some headed this way and see if we can make em work.

I also found some meters from Hoyt and another supplier, but didn't find the same size...they even had bezels too!

Can you send me the link for the meters? Maybe it's group buy time? I'd love to see some modern ACCURATE, FAST meters in a PL....Are there any alterations to the circuit needed, or are they a plug and play meter?

Very interesting. I think someone should have a bunch of faceplates and meters made up for an absolute complete restoration of the PL...I know there is a website where the faceplates can be recreated, and the meter cuout couuld be adjusted if the meters were a slightly different size. I think I sent my email address in a PM to you, iof you could send me the meter particulars, I'd appreciate it...

Thanks

No I didnt see the the mass fan build, where is it located so I can check it...

Yes one of the meters is a hoyt, http://www.hoytmeter.com/products/VU_me ... evels.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The other is jewell meters, http://www.weschler.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As for it being drop in it depends on the resistance of the meter, you will have to match the resistance of the PL meter or make up a resistor network for the new meter to match the PL meter.
Sutton I set you 2 face plates that would be nice to see on the new PL meters...I will post also but since you have a problem seeing post I included in email to you.Full_Meter_black.jpg[/attachment:3eobyaw0][
