One last check before it gets boxed.

Proof, loading them in the truck now. Kevin., the speaker plans and test reports are in the 700 box. In Sutton's 400 box is the care package he wanted.

Looks like another beauty of a conversion Lee. Ready for another 200K miles :-)

Lee you set up the PL 700B for 370 mV? Or was that just a random reading? Factory is 350 mV, right? You might get a bit better distortion readings at 370 mV and the amp will run a bit hotter, right? Just curious.

Mark

Ran out of resolution on the pot Mark. It was acceptable, and for some reason it was going down since first installing the 2N5088's. There is a care package in Sutton's box for you Mark.

Thanks Lee. I hope Mark will be one happy camper. I also will be. I will have everything to do the 400 conversion. This time things will be different. I gotta whole different mindset with no fear this time. I know I'll still need hand holding, and some help, but maybe I can spread the questions out a bit more and include Skratch this time. I know Lee and Dr. Mark are both sick of my dumb questions and mis-steps..

Kevin called and is happy as hell. Can't wait to get the WOPL 1000. When it arrives, I'll make sure we check everything to make sure nothing came loose during the cross country trip, and then hook the beast up to his Line Arrays. Should be totally awesome...I know he'll po po his pants...If anyone can run the amp to clipping ( you excluded), Kevin will test the amp to its' full potential.
Also, can't wait to see the KHorn plans !

And Dr. Mark, as soon as the PL 400 arrives I'll send it on to you with the other things I owe you.

Thanks to Lee, Mark, Dr. Mark, Joe, Don, and everyone else who have helped us all get to this point in audio history...

As said in slingblade...... I like the way you talk Sutton !!! lol.....

" some calls it a kaiser blade, I calls it a slingblade.."

Hi Lee, its not so much the resistance, that would cause a reduction in level. The resistance and the pf combination acts like a filter which alters the frequency range. Thats why some cables sound different from others. Gauge of conductor, length, insulation properties, dielectrics of conductor insulation, they all have a effect on the sound. The only benefit of this is the phono, the load of the cartridge and the cables are usually outlined and considered in the build of the RIAA network to compensate losses. If you look that is why the Spec 1 has the adjustable cartridge loading...there is a noticable difference in frequency range when adjusted while playing, compensates for cable and cartridge loading. I make my own cables with 18-20ga. twisted pair wire, no coax or shielded conductor cable. the shorter the better...more direct and no sound alterations.[attachment=0:2orc025z]Picture 031.jpg[/attachment:2orc025z]

JOHNNY D!!! Wassup man!! Now that's a very complete explaination, thanks for that. Have you tried to steer the sound or do you just go for the most neutral??

All neutral, no eq, no tone control just straight from the source to the speakers. Have my music catagorized as excellent recording, great, good, acceptable and garbage...
if some of the recording engineers actually listen to there recordings at home instead of a studio monitor speaker they all be great recordings...
Alot of jazz and classical recordings are of great quality since you can't get a orchestra in a studio....LOL

Sorry been away, work is crazy, so many upgrades and replacment of critical equiptment..

Hey Johnny...

So you make RCA's for all applications with twisted pair construction?? Preamp.. phono... aux, etc??

Hmm.. I never thought to do it that way. Good tip - I'm curious now and I think I'll try that out!

John, interesting that you rated recordings. When taping to reel to reel in the 70's from vinyl, I had a rating system for the genre and one for the quality of the recording. The rating system was wayyyy too complicated for what it was meant to convey, but it worked.

Yeh, I like the system of rating, good for the mood, if I wanna get dirty I'll throw something in with alot of distortion and compression...if I wanna be detailed I'll throw in some jazz or classical.
I think my all time fav is pink floyd and even some rush....oh and a couple tracks from fleetwood mac / rumors, vinyl cuts.
jbeckva, the only wires that are shielded are the phono wires because of the ease of rf and eddy currects from local power supplies to be injected, but I have to mention they are of the balance type where the two twisted conductors are the tip and ring and the shield is chassis ground to shield rf.

I am a pumpkins fan but not THAT much of a pumpkin fan. I thought the Alison Krauss SACDs were pricey until I saw the asking price for that LP.
