Lee and I ponytail all the control board wires together to keep them out of your way while working on it. Use a small ty wrap that you will cut off later when you attach the board. Makes working a lot neater and it strain relieves those wires in the process so you don't accidentally break one off.
Yep, used that trick when getting the diodes in too. Will do, but as I hadn't had much sleep last night.. this is beginning to be me in my chair.. man... gotta get up n walk around a lil.. hehe

Can you get your DC bundle underneath the board connect wiring? It routes better if you can.

That bundle is very stiff and not going anywhere, as I'm using the milspec wire throughout. I like to keep the clearance (visibility, really) with that dratted screw for the top and bottom plates even with the smaller screws in hand, because I've been a "victim" when the clearance isn't there (zap, boom, pow!.. 4th of july down there LOL).

Your call Jer. I recommend it to keep wiring from obstructing the view the BP boards.

I can see your point and it's a good one, Joe. I think in this circumstance it's the "once bitten" mantra I am followin.. and that was a 400 that scared the brown stuff out of me, heh. Whole lot of current and voltage going on with these guys, as you know...

I wish I would have seen your suggestion to ponytail/tiestrap the dang control wires earlier! One did break, and it had to be about the worse one TO break... 5L, which you know is ground.. Whole lot more risky to resolder THAT connection than it might be the others, IMHO.. a lot of heat needed.... and damn if I didn't float a pad in the process! Had to break out the glasses AND the main spyglass to see what I was doing, but it should be "in there" now. Yep, immediately checked things out with a meter... all good..

Onto.. drumroll.. the FRONT... that's the lassssst daggone task before it goes on the variac!!! Hell yah...

Good work, Jerry. Let's hope all that nervousness before flicking on the power switch evaporates into Shpongleland's abyss.

It is great when you know nothing inside is original; sounds much better than the original; is more reliable than the original but still looks like the original :)

That's the big thing Joe.. What I really like is knowing now that those 40 year old sockets are gone, and every output has a connection better than it ever had. My hat's off to you - this is fantastic... Now if I can just ebay off every other amp I"ve been through, now (and ever) sitting around collecting dust..

And it's that look that got me hook line and sinker all over again. You know that third 700B I had and sold Jerr? Ever heard of sellers remorse? Well I had it. I now have a third 700B again. What's worse is I have no application for it as of right now. I just thought it'd make a good back-up?? Am I clinically insane?? Because it's not like these things come on the cheap? God's I don't know how I got this addiction. Somebody stop me before all they can think to put on my tombstone is; "here lies the Phase Linear Phanatic"!!! Instead of my real name? My poor family! :confused4:

I'm afraid not my friend. I know I sound like a broken record here, but "David always PAYS". :sad1: A good deal? What's that? Lucky? What's that? A bargain? What's that? Ptch!............nah......... I acquired it by local means. St. Louis seems to be the old stomping grounds of a pretty heavy Phase Linear society from back in the day. If you dig deep enough, you know a guy that knows a guy. And THEY KNOW they are sought after, so if I want a cosmetically mint/functionally perfect gem.........well........I gotz some overtime to be pullin. :-/ Poop.
