Jer's 400, number TWO thread...

So you have some extra 410"s?? The ECG's are a big worry. Glad you didn't fire it...

I have 4 of them, but those were from the 700 I rebuilt (the 2nd one, hehe .. we shalt not speaketh of the first.. ). I had them in there for a few days but then got a major buzz oscillation on the left channel. I ended up going with 15024's and haven't had a problem since, but maybe it could have just been due to the TO3 socket mounting, as I didn't quite get the hang/trick of THAT until in the middle of the 700.

I'll try 'em ...

The output section was a cobbled up mess....Jer did you see the noise difference between the 15024's and the 21194's??

with what combination? so far I haven't really experienced anything with 15024 drivers and either 194 or 196 outputs, but there's always a first time for everything.

In this 400 I'm doing for James I had expectations of having a noise floor less than the Pig. I didn't, in fact it was double. I had done a lot more to make it quieter than the Pig so it was a little frustrating. I swapped out bthe 15024's being driver by RCA 410's with the 21194's. Went from 397 MICRO volts to 240 MICRO volts. Joe says the 15024's are a general purpose part and the 21194's are an audio rated part, thus my difference.

Ok so what did you end up with? All 21194's.. 410's + 21194's?

Iput the 15024's back because it came with em and nothing wrong with em.

You should also check out the 410s you have Jer to sort good from bad. They are getting scarce. Personally I have never seen a blown pre driver. Usually the buzz buzz you write about are bad sockets on the backplane. Phase Linear should have picked a more robust socket for this application

I was thinking the same thing about the sockets. Yeah I'll give the ones I have a shot - Lee up to you if you want to send anymore.

That last one I did from NW had 'em all blown, but prolly due to it also having 30 amp fuses in the rail fuse positions.

I'm getting short too Jer. I think I've got 18 left.

Got the outputs in...
