Joe is a terrible tease tonight, little snippets. He does have a board and all the parts headed my way.

Lee,
Joe has not committed anything to me and I am trying to be patient. Trying very hard. My thought is that he wants to test them himself before he lets any populated boards go out the door. I would like you to get the first pair and I would be happy with just one bare board for now.

Are you SURE he doesn't have one headed your way????????? I didn't want a populated board, i wanted to populate myself also. So , Mark, maybe you should just flat out ask him. I know he told me you would be one of his beta testers.

Re: Jerry's " ONLY ONE IN THE COUNTRY" Phase Linear 700 Thre

This was Joe's next to the last communique tonight.

Yes looking very good Lee. Program material sounds excellent through it even with the crappy caps I have in the front end. High frequency definition is noticeably better than the stock PL400 I am comparing it to, likely due to the much higher quality Wima caps in the audio path and the audio grade Nichicons in the PS sections

I have it cranked and it is very clean.

The mechanical aspects are very pretty. All the original harness wiring interfaces with this board very nicely. To be honest with you, I don't know how the original assemblers tacked all those wires in place without feedthrough holes. They must have had some fixturing in order to turn out the number of the PL400s that they did.

I made one mistake on one silkscreen legend, I renamed all the reference designators and missed one (I will leave it as a "Where's Waldo" test).

Turn on and off thump is more significant than the stock but I don't have the 2N1304/5s installed yet so they may come into play during this transition, will have to check.

This amp would sound great paired with some vintage AR3s.

The last word tonight.......

Another note, with the inputs shorted (or my preamp turned off), noise floor for the amp is zip. Cannot hear anything even with my ear right up against the tweeter.

Jer, the DC protect boards are on the way, the White Oak board with all components are on the way, the temp compensating trans will be mounted today, the new mounting standoffs will be on today, there is palpable progress.

last word from Joe------
Hi Lee
Here is the right channel output of the amp, my lab mule has an intermittent going on on the left channel that I need to debug so I am using the right channel to get some data as it is rock solid.

Took sine waves at 1Khz, 10Khz and 20Khz at 10W RMS into 8 ohm load. They are attached (TEK0008 through TEK0010).

Also show square wave response at 10Khz, 10W RMS into 8 ohm load (TEK0011 and 0012).

Hey Lee,

Gotta emphasize.. I really TRULY appreciate this, man. I've been a lil' scarce lately, but it's going to be a rocky month or two to figure out my new "position" at work. Seems they still want everything to be done, but at the same time pulling the rug out from under our feet. Going to be crazy here for awhile.

Again, thanks sooo much! :thumbright:

BTW,
Joe sent me an email today saying that he was trying to put together the entire kit for my PL700B beta test! I will use his kit and instructions and send him back any comments. Is life good, or what?

I'll post results here as well.

Me too, but in this instance it was the PS caps. I'll second the candy store, or as Nando so aptly put it one day, "The GF smiled and said Yeah, we can do that!!"

Re: Jerry's " ONLY ONE IN THE COUNTRY" Phase Linear 700 Thre

My GF has been known to frequent biker bars, not that there is anything wrong with that.

<New Topic>
So, I recently received a PL2000/PL200 (smallish) wooden case and it is missing any form of the four "feet." What is the correct form of shoe for these enclosures and do you have any lurking under your bench?

Also, were the components held in place inside the enclosures or were they just slid up to the front. I can find no reference for this anywhere.
