It looks beautiful! Can't wait can't wait...

I got those dual FET packages in for the M-80 tonight... might just put 'em in to see if it makes a diff... but I do still need to invest in some more caps for it.

I think it would have looked better now with thinner knobs. hard to tell what that stuff will look like till you put it on. But if you like it Jer, it just tickles the shit outta me.
Jani's birthday today, can't take her out the rodeo folks have taken over for the week. But i did get her a take-out lobster!!

Pretty much, there's those two 1000uF/100V beasties that from what Dave says are a real beeotch to pull out, then the assortment of small voltage/capacitance caps.. there are a few of 'em. Just need to do the research required with the manual and schematic (hmm.. unless Dave has a premade BOM handy! Ey Dave!!!)

THUMP!

Do the larger values of the main caps contribute to the louder turn on and turn off "Thump"? Would a bleeder resistor do anything to minimize this? At least protect the speakers?

Mark, i have found if the pre is off and the volume pots all the way down turn on/off thump is almost non-existent during "on" and completely acceptable at "Off" Larger value caps stretch the time to off thump is all.

Well within capability then. Cool.

The only guarantee to protect speaks is the DC Protect PCB's. Mark these PCB's also have on muting and at turn off open the relay contacts 20 seconds before off thump can occur.

Re: Jerry's " ONLY ONE IN THE COUNTRY" Phase Linear 700 Thre

Been doing some serious comparing between the Spec 2 and the White Oak 1000, for over a week now. Joe's board has tightened up the bass, cleaned up the mids, and definately has given better definition to the highs. I'm still in awe of the difference. In the stock configuration it wouldn't even have made a good subwoofer amp. That's why I've had it for 3 years and hadn't done anything with it. It is certainly a different beast now.

Hi Lee,

First of all, I like your new avatar. The Pioneer Spec amp personifies you: big, brawny, and a simple, no-nonsense front plate.

The subjective side of your opinion counts most because all the upgrades you've made using the White Oak mods leads to this pleasing end result. Do you know how many others, within other audio forums, have completed and evaluated their similarly modded PL 700s?

Nando.

Re: Jerry's " ONLY ONE IN THE COUNTRY" Phase Linear 700 Thre

I know of no others that have done the White Oak mod Nando. Mine was the 2nd board to be populated and tested. I think Mark was a close 2nd. As to others going to the extreme of taking a beat up 700 Series I and making it something to respect and open your eyes..........................I don't know Nando. It seems like folks were concentrating on getting the beasts just up and running. Now, understand my exposure to other forums is pretty limited and i might be surprised at the amount of work done to some out there.
I like to think I'm pretty good at what I do, as far as i go, which is a glorified parts changer. the credit to the improved sonics and distortion go to Joe. Joe is the sharpest guy i know when it comes to this stuff. We started talking about a new board when i was buying his LED upgrades a year and a half ago. I don't know if he already had it in mind or not, but as I've come to know him i doubt i brought anything original to the conversation, maybe encouraged him as to how well it might be received. He's the real deal, very glad to have met him and look forward to what else is being hatched in that fertile mind of amplification.

In that case Lee, I'm glad you were able to share all the details with us. You realize you might be Joe's first testimonial for his product. Jerry is going to have a helluva amp!

Nando.
