Jerry's Gotten-off-butt Yamaha M80 Rebuild Thread

Well if not your dogs or cats getting into it, worry about your daughter. Can't you get a external computer drive case and then wire it with some detachable connectors so there is no exposed wiring for anyone or even a paper clip to fall on to?

Well, I did take Dave's follow on reply to heart.

I'll be ordering some rubber "boots" (like spark plug or battery covers, but a bit snugger). For the interim, I have it all covered with electrical tape.

And yup.. it's all together again now.. and it did come out of protection (I measured EVERY possible safe-to-turn-on resistance prior). But... need more info from the M80 master on the idle current adjustment, then I'll put the top back on for now. I did give it a lil test, and it wasn't too shabby.

And I think I'm going to get a few more caps. I didn't notice at the time, but there are a few others that look pretty grimy.

Buh ha ha.. "Frankenstein Lives".. eyup!

Not gonna be too long and a PL frankenstein will be headed your way, the new board will be in the amp tonight.

Woohoo!

Lee, I keep thinking of what I could do for ya in return... And I'm thinking here... how about a custom built digital music "server/player" that would have a sound output more than worthy to hook up to your main system? Make it "caveman easy" too... :)

HMMMMMM (thoughtful thinking type)... :thumbright:

Jer, there's gonna be lots for you to help with. Ya saw joe's Schemo for the x-amps, thats getting close well put you to work mod'n Xers.

DC offset is not adjustable. Very doubtful if adjusting bias(idle) current will improve the offset numbers. To reduce the DC offset your going to need to find some 2SK389 dual JFET's or a couple single "matched" JFET's of a similar spec. Or.. Just live with it.

Well, so I got it all buttoned back up... Listening to some Kraftwerk (electokardiogram).

Yeeeeah! It's got bass, and plenty of it. And clear as a bell. Sounds like ... holy crap... sounds out-standing!

Hmmm.. I see some CV DX9's for sale in the local CL. I think with those and this M80, maybe we can really get SEISMIC! Bha ha ha ha ha

Seriously tho... I'm going to get the rest of the e-lytic caps plus the dual fets (looks like I can get a good deal on the 2sk's... anyone want to chip in?). That's "phase II". For right now, seems all the work paid off

(holy crap.. I just got "Shpongled" by that electroplasm song again!!! )

Jer, if any D-9's come up you don't want gather em up anyway and I'll send money your way. good job on the Yammie!!!
