Jerry's "Gonna Rebuild me PLWO 1000" thread

Believe me, I didn't fall for it then nor now LOL. Next thing you'll ask me to go find 15 feet of gigline and a wire stretcher while I'm at it.

Reverse bias a resistor... yeah ok... :rr:

Flood of memories, Jer. Bucket of steam, a new fallopian tube for the radar, relative bearing grease, a mechanic's punch, left handed torque wrench, an AC battery, relay fluid, non-sparking copper magnet, the golden rivet, key for the vapor lock, metric adjustable wrench, prop wash, so many others...

Heheh.. my favorite had to have been the "Go down to engineering and ask 'em for a mechanic's punch.", then see 'em come back up with slings on their arms.

BTW- there is such a thing as a wire stretcher. Barb wire fences require a wire stretcher.

Tipped one last night with the Sterling. Got the grille, air to air aftercooler, air conditioning condenser, automatic transmission cooler, power steeroing cooler, radiator, hood, right fender, radiator support, fender flares, fan, belt, fan shroud, front bumper.....

Whew... got the innies rewired... buzz caps on on four quadrants of the BR... new fuse holder...

Mounting the transistors on the last side now. Boy did I get a funny look when I said to my wife "Not now, I'm screwin' trannies at the moment"... hehehe :thumbright:

Tomorrow .. maybe?

LOL... yeah.. now "trannie screwer" has at least TWO meanings..

Got all the outputs in.. all ready to rumble. I was doing a lil bit of reworkin on the PLWO driver board....

And off came the emitter pin on Q5R!!! :angryfire:

Yep, I'm a tranny screwer alright.. 2N3439, eh? Any matching needed?

(m.. fer.... mumble mumble..... grr.. sonofa.... )

I hate it when a trannie breaks a leg like that. No matching needed on that one but you really should use a 2N3439. It is one of the few that has 150-200V across the Emitter and Collector. But it has a Vceo of 350V so it works.

Do ya have a spare? I can drop one in the mail if ya need it.

Jer , post a pic of your output wall and the rca inputs please?? I discovered something with this 700. Your's was a wee bit noisy right??

Mark.. got 'em on order now, and a few mica insulators while I'm at it since I had to chintz on two and put in silpads. should be next week early

Lee... outside or inside view on the RCA's? What did you find?

Well actually soundude gets props for this. After removing the Direct/normal switch on most 700's they are noisy if not loaded (or loaded enough) he suggested a 47K ohm between in signal + and ground. They quiet, like graveyard, after that.

Inside Jer of the input section. Can't remember if I left those on or not.
