wot gets me, is that us mere males do all the work, and when we collapse in a screaming heap, they complain that they have to sleep in the wet spot!
wot's THAT all about?
Well I just can't stop listening to the 4311b's, simply brilliant. They keep me up longer than I should be most nights. Been a bit lazy and running a lot of digital sources, mainly due to tiredness from work (on my feet all day). Might inject some more vinyl into them over the weekend. A better amplifier will make this very interesting indeed
I figured there is nothing wrong with my Thorens TD 160 Super and how the speaker picks up those ultra low frequencies that you can't hear but see by movement in the woofer. Tried playing some other vinyl sources done by other people digitally and the same thing happens, must be very related to vinyl in general and the fact these speakers operate more efficiently so it is more obvious.
I think something like this would be a good starting point, around $195. Would be hard getting used to not being able to switch inputs at the touch of a button.
Glad all is going well! Actually if you look at preamplifier specs having a volume control doesn't seem to degrade the numbers. The tone controls help tweak the sound to compensate for speakers, room acoustics and other areas where you can compensate for imperfect conditions.
Pioneer made some good preamps in their day - I use the pre out of the SA-9900 integrated amplifier and it's awesome (the amplifier stage is good too). The Spec stuff is quite good and I understand the Elite hardware is very good.

The one thing that keeps me attached to the 9500s is the huge display on it and VU meters. It performs well for what it is but I think cooling is important if you want these units to last. They do have a habit of failing due to excessive heat.
