JBL 4311b Studio Monitors

I think they meant bad backs when they said til death do us part...

wot gets me, is that us mere males do all the work, and when we collapse in a screaming heap, they complain that they have to sleep in the wet spot!
wot's THAT all about?

Well I just can't stop listening to the 4311b's, simply brilliant. They keep me up longer than I should be most nights. Been a bit lazy and running a lot of digital sources, mainly due to tiredness from work (on my feet all day). Might inject some more vinyl into them over the weekend. A better amplifier will make this very interesting indeed :toothy10:

More than interesting, a religious experience....

George is going to loan me a Stock PL 200 series 2, it has to be better than the Pioneer 9500s even though its has 25 watts per channel less power :toothy10:

I figured there is nothing wrong with my Thorens TD 160 Super and how the speaker picks up those ultra low frequencies that you can't hear but see by movement in the woofer. Tried playing some other vinyl sources done by other people digitally and the same thing happens, must be very related to vinyl in general and the fact these speakers operate more efficiently so it is more obvious.

It's called rumble. there were even special circuits designed years ago to deal with it. The 200 is about 25% better than advertised.

Was just max testing the latest 400, man they are sounding sweet!

After getting the WOPL I may invest in a "Passive" Pre-Amp, must be a good thing when the signal doesn't actually flow through a volume pot.

Yep, but a good pot is not as horrible as they are talked about. Of course the replacement cost of the 4 gang ALPS oh the Spec 1 is 439.00

Didn't you know that a little pot doesn't hurt? You just need to know how to control it.

Its under control and flowing nicely though my system this evening :cyclopsani:

Glad all is going well! Actually if you look at preamplifier specs having a volume control doesn't seem to degrade the numbers. The tone controls help tweak the sound to compensate for speakers, room acoustics and other areas where you can compensate for imperfect conditions.

Pioneer made some good preamps in their day - I use the pre out of the SA-9900 integrated amplifier and it's awesome (the amplifier stage is good too). The Spec stuff is quite good and I understand the Elite hardware is very good.

The one thing that keeps me attached to the 9500s is the huge display on it and VU meters. It performs well for what it is but I think cooling is important if you want these units to last. They do have a habit of failing due to excessive heat.

The good news is that you get to experiment and find something that works for you. That will be fun and I'm sure you'll keep us posted.

By the way - I noticed half of Oz is on fire. Reminds me of this part of the world.

NSW is shag nasty riight now...I think all of us are thinking of you guys and the 200 homes now lost, according to CBS News Up To THe Minute this AM.

I notice that Gamve hasn't reported in lately...if you see this how are you anyway?
