My PL400 Display.
I took 10 12v DC LED's and put 5 in each meter. I use an old phone charger for power supply. I also added Vellum/Diffuser Paper to soften the bright LEDs. I think it worked out pretty good ?

Tony ,
two questions about your led display :
a ) why have you used an external power supply ? With 10 small diodes
you could fix the the problem using original 6 Vac
b ) why have you mounted VUs with 4 discs ?
I'm only curious ; you have made a good job .( There are no shadows )

Ciao
Marco

Marco, I have used the same trick under the hold downs to spread the load over the plastic housing to keep from interfering with the meter movement. I used 1" square aluminum 1/16 in thick...

My main reason for using the separate power supply is because I have numerous pieces equipment in my audio room but do enjoy them all lit up at once so instead of having the whole amp powered up I made a separate power supply just for the meter lights. The disc that you see are actually pennies. Just help spread the load out a little bit the plastic is starting to get brittle didn't want anything to crack so added the pennies underneath.

Tony ,
thank you for your answer . Infact now I remember that my hifi guru ( an official PL service engineer for Italy )
told me that PL's VUs were fragile .
Ciao and Buona Pasqua .

With as many as I've shipped, when you get them tight enough to not shift during shipping it can interfere with meter movement...

Starting off with making my PL400 look all pretty. A new Laser Etched Faceplate, some new aluminum bolts, took the meter trims and had them powder coated aluminum. Now I'm working on making my own LED's. Then after it's all pretty I'll be moving to the inside for some white oak audio mod's and more. Got to start somewhere.
Love that black faceplate and etching! If ever one was made for the 700B; I'd be all over it. I'd say "Count me in for a pre-order for four please!" :toothy5:

Yep, that works, but you'd think someone would have understood the problem a little better....

That is a pretty typical meter securing method, the pressure clamps that is. Pretty ineffective as well..

Remember the old Stewart-Warner round gauges you put in your car??Two studs on the back and the bracket going over those two studs and resting on the panel the gauge was sitting in? As many meters as Pl bought they could have had two studs molded to the case facing back and done the same thing...
