Hafler DH-200

Owned one in the mid 80s,,My first Stand alone Power Amp ,,bought it used from a friend of mine who up-graded to a Pair of Quad 405 to power his Maggies,,,I thought it was a solid amp But I can,t remember anything spectacular about it,,,,Vinyl David on Th I think has a couple in his system

What color is it? Is it a brownish color? If so I have had one. I used it for years. I liked it alot. I had it when I was building speakers. It had some bass to it. It would rattle my windows. Isn't it rated at 100 wpc. If it is that is a conservative number.

Shoehorning a 1000VA toroidal transformer into one.Upgrading the filter caps from 10,000uf to 30,000 uf. Upgrading the bridge rectifier to a 68A IXYS FRED. Installing a "softstart" board from ESP. Going to try and incorporate a speaker protect relay as well. Installed one of those EBAY capacitor ModKits.Vampire phono jacks and 5-way posts.New Carling power switch. And still trying to get it all stuffed under the oiginal case.

That sounds very tasty, are ya gonna show us pics of the rebuild? Will this be a project for future buyers of this little gem to get updated by you?

Anyone familiar with it ? Would like to hear your likes and dislikes.
I've heard a lot of "pros" about it.Some of the "cons" have been...
1. Transformer not large enough to run both channels to there peak performance.
2. No speaker protection.
3.Cheesy binding posts..
yada,yada,yada.....

Great to know, just because they are popular, and someone may ask me my opinion like you did, I can steer them your way later when you get it sorted :rabbit:

I do have a question Dave. Where did you find your Black Gates for FF amp. I scoured the world and found a few for my PL.

I have never seen any blackgates at handmade. That where I get all of my Elna audio caps (Cerafines_) you can get Silmic II's as well from Handmade or Digikey.
They also have a good selection of Nichicon Muse audiograde.Mouser usually has better prices on the Nichicons..
Parts Connexion has some blackgates. So does Angela..
