Got a problem with Jani's computer

Ok guys, when we backed up Jani's computer yesterday it took forever and when we open the external hard drive to check what it has done it saved all the files in "Word" about 2 gigs each and when you go to open them up it says it's too large a file for Word to open.....WTF?

Does your backup software do something to the files when it saves them off Lee, like do you need to do a restore operation to bring them back? Some backup devices do this. Or is this a straight add on disk you are backing up to? Can you open same files on your computer?

Ot's a Simpletech xternal HD with StorageSynch backup software. No, that's for mine hers is a newer version but does the same thing. Mine made a mirror copy, hers just made 2 gig Word files out of everything. Probably a settings screwup on our part...

You should invest in a multi TB USB disk that just looks like a disk instead of using backup software. Simpler and it just looks like an extension of the file system that way.

Backup software packages come and go so it is hard to keep up with them.

Check her backup settings. And try backing up just a few files, and then make sure you can access them on the external drive.

I mysel just use a big ass usb drive and just drag and drop the files I want to backup, thay way there is no file reformating or compression going on and the files on the external drive can be opened by any computer anywhere without any special software.

I guess it depends upon what and how much you are backing up. I only keep copies of data files, as the software and applications can always be reloaded in the event of a hard drive failure.

Agree, that is the only surefire way. Otherwise you get hooked on some companies software that goes out of business or gets acquired by Symantec and obsoleted.

Let the QB update finish then ring me back up... got limited BW there so any use like teamviewer can cut into it..

I noticed he didn't make any comments on the favorite for DancingBear.com. :rabbit:

Cool - DancingBear is more than just a site about a bear. Too fooking funny. I think it's a way to check up on your wife - isn't it?
