Yes the printer's turned on, usb cable's plugged into the computer, & nope haven't been able to print with it from this new computer. I tried running the install disk (which worked with the old computer. It wouldn't work, so I tried it from the Internet but still won't print. My computer says everything downloaded and installed except Epson Scan. When I try to do the test print it says "Communication error. The product may be not be selected." I have a win64 bit. I installed the printer after I updated my computer, but found more updates afterward & did them afterward.

First have you tried a different usb port to plug the printer into?

The old install disk was probably for Win XP which I am guessing was on your old computer. If trying another usb port doesn't work then I would uninstall the printer and all it's software, then reboot the cmputer and install the Win 7 64 bit download from epson.

If you still have your user manual read the install procedure. Does it tell you to install everyting befdore you even hook the printer up?

It is good you are doing windows updates o nyour computer, but they shouldn't effect your printer or ability to use it.

The WF-3540 install disc that I got has Win8, Win7, Vista, XP Pro x64, Win XP and the OS X drivers on it.

Running it off the network port, not USB.

She didn't mention anything about using it wirelessly. If you are using this printer wirelessly that would add a whole new set of possible issues.

If using with a usb cable and the printer was working prior to installing the new compouter I would suspect the installation of drivers and software are creating the issue.

Tough to say for sure without the printer and computer being right in front of me though.

Thanks guys. She uninstalled printer software and reinstalled using the install disk and everything is fine now.

And do not power it off until you do that and get a complete backup...

She is now deleting the internet cache in preparation for backing up the entire computer. She has a couple external hard drives, a Simpletech she has backed up on before, which she is using now.

I second that. Leave it running untill you get everything off it you want off of it and then clean out anything you don't want to leave on it. Then you can power it do wn and see if it can restart.

You two are becoming regular computer technicians there, or you could at least keep a technician busy. :rabbit:

That is likely the problem Lee, IIRC, that clogs up the heat sink fins on the processor...
