on these joints a little hotter setting about 750 - 800 heats pin faster for quicker job
may not make sense but works good

Makes perfect sense to me. It works. Takes a little experience on those things to see it. More heat and less time on joint compared to less heat and more time is MOST of the time a better proposition...

Yeah Glen, if you are making just a one time buy I can fix you up. When I order something for a WO project I order 200 ct in resistors and 100 count in caps and in the 1,000's for small transistors. In the case of Don's board I order in the 100's if they have the stock. So I have more than I'll need......maybe.....

BTW, glad it's the right button....

I would be glad to buy a set from you. I started to order a week ago and found I had to update some parts as they were not available and left it for later. Can you supply a set components for the 400 board as well?
let me know what the total will be including the end bell, switch and button

So now for some things I have learned about doing these series ll backplate jobs.
the boards did not align with the heat sink holes. I had narrowed the board to fit the case and sealed with epoxy. I thought this was going well. I found the board to be still tight on the top edge with ampel clearance now on the bottom and none at the top. I fitted the heat sinks although the screws are tight but all go in.

the next unit I am going to slot the frame so there will be ample clearance. I hope this does not weaken it to much but should work as the slot will be closer to the back more than the edge of the flange.

any word on the new frame availability as I would just then instead?

I think I got carried away and may back down on some wire sizes
i used the following

Cap to fuse holders#12
cap ground bar to Dcp board #12
bridge to Cap #12
fuse to backplate #16
ground wire to backplate #16
ground to chassis #12
all board to board wires #20
power supply to Dcp board #20 three wire shielded (two ac from bridge rectifier and ground)
power supply to meter board #20 three wire shielded (two low voltage ac from transformer and ground)
ac power supply #14 ( switch wires and meter board ac bundled )
meter wires from input and back to control board #20 twisted shielded ( ground and shieled tied together )

all done with teflon cased silver plated wire and supplied mostly from Dennis ( nav linear)

The first five are out of anodizing. He's gotta get em picked up and checked out. Prolly a couple weeks yet.

You're work here is top notch. Using large wire for this application shows your skills - this is not easy in cramped quarters while soldering to relatively small tabs. Really good wire discipline too.

Using a hotter tip temperature is a good way to get in and out quick. It does take some experience and your amp shows that you have the skills it takes. Nice job!

It helps have good product to work with so anyone who wants good wire Dennis has it. Joe supplied some 18 and 22 gauge that I will use on the 400 build but it looks good as well.

must be that drunk feeling from the low fuel prices.
speaking of which I just bought diesel at 2.36 a gallon . Reg was 1.89

I regret that I went with the 400 instead of the 700 now. A little extra headroom isn't a bad thing.
