Damn... I'm way behind on this thread !!!! SO... We are all going to vegas and taking a bunch of PL amps and a pair of K-horns . When are we leaving.... I missed that somewhere ????
Zach we are at the point in the noise floor where resonance can now be noticeable. Chassis resonance, can build and be injected into the signal path. I proved it a bit ago with the AP. Had a 700 in residual test mode and fired the K's up in the lottery 400. noise went from 180-200 uv to 350-400uv. And it was not at Mach8. Steve has his stuff on very heavy benches with those pointed weighty things underneath them, and weights on top of chassis covers
, I heard the difference. There is so much in the environment that affects the sound it's a wonder anybody can agree on anything...
But you're not worried about fans kicking full blast on the back?
Whats up with the heat issue on these things? Seems like they dont have long in the "hot" zone before theyre too hot. I understand the importance of fan cooling as both my pro amps use fans, but is it due to the amount of heat displacement the sinks are capable of?
Only once have I ever used a fan to cool the 1801. One channel was blown and I was running both speakers off the other. Now that channel would get screaming hot real fast. It would take a hot summer night and hours of high volume listening to put it into thermal protect with both channels running.
Ben, their cooing fin area was wholly inadequate to begin with. And it aint got any better.
