I just assumed they were pet names for the amps you plan to blow the competition away with

I just woke up but if this is in Vegas, Debbie wants one of the Old Man's silver coins (Pawn Star's), it would be a cool unexpected surprise for her and I would send you the money for one today if possible (if your even in the same geographical location LOL)

I was just on AK and was reading that 4 page thread about Phase Linears. Man, my hats off to a few of you guys keeping everything so subdued. I wanted SO bad to post about a 400 smoking a $15k amp.... I am quite sure there is a reason Lee did not so I will follow his implied guidance in the matter. Perhaps things are better left understated until fatman and little boy do their thing... who's going to listen to a longhaired Metalhead anyway

But it is so hard not to plug these, I feel like my hair is standing on end. Need to go find something to keep my mind occupied and away from AK... oh yeah, I can fire up the 400 and validate it to the dog and cat, Pouncey sings along with it, it's quite hilarious watching her croon like a wolf. Mis Piggy just lays back and watches me through slitted eyes. She's used to warming herself up on my guitar amp so is no stranger to loud music

EDIT: There's not much PL left in a WO so it's a totally different animal anyway, no comparison

That's funny Ron! Yeah my old Lab mix used to do the "RCA - his master's voice" thing whenever I had her up here. She even tried going behind the speaker...

LOL

Missy does the wierdest thing though, the cat lays on her back (by the right speaker) with her legs turned the other way under her so it looks like she has a broken back. I can see her hairs move from the woofer breeze (and she has a LOT of hair being a purebred Himalayan), you can put your hand in her fur and it disappears LOL. Inevitably, Pouncey is on the back of the couch facing the left speaker. Guess you have to be here to appreciate it, they seem to

That's why we put a bug in Doug's ear. I haven't asked Skratch, but maybe he could too. Champagne like the Pioneer chmpgne would be pretty damn nice...
Still working on the champagne finish, but gold sounds like it is an option from at least one vendor. I may try to find/ buy a a couple of trashed face plates to send out and see if the finish is what some of you are looking for.

Zach hit on it the other day. What do you think would happen if I went on AK and said a 400 shredded a 15K Rowland? That's a 500 wpc into 8 Rowland . Can't you see the shotstorm over that One??

Exactly Ron. I thought it rather appropriate.
And like Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they will get way more than they expected. The only way it'll be fair is to put a box over em and blast em into the wall by whence they sit.
Steven is nobody's fool. He managed 85 stereo stores for years in Ohio. He knows Bob Carver, Nelson Pass, Mark Rowland, Mark Levinson PERSONALLY, and was good friends with Sidney Polk (Ohm Acoustics). He has heard almost every amp ever made and is not a bullshitter, one of the more decent men I've ever met. And he loves that little 400.

I went back to his place Sunday on a lark, was going to get the Pig Monday morning, but decided to get it packed and shipped Sunday. Puled up to his place and he was blasting his White Oak Silver 400. He really didn't want The Pig to go either, he saiid he was not done studying it. He knows enough to work on his own shit, but when yoou can make 6-7K a day studying papers, other folks can fix his stuff. He said the same thing, they won't believe it till they hear it.

His favorite pair of K-horns is all 16 ohm drivers, the 400 drove them to earsplitting levels and never got hot, stayed clean and green. The Rowland didn't do 16 ohms as well. Not enough outputs plain and simple. And yeah, it sounded real good.

Lee: I admit it's adrenaline-pumping to hear your feedback from this past trip you had. I'm sure you have a greater appreciation to hear in a third-party environment what most of us already have heard in our own homes. Your head is still probably buzzing from all the activity you took in. It's these listening sessions that can prove all the hard work in the engineering, fabrication, and assembly devoted to the Phase Linear 400 and 700 B is a proven design. It makes me proud to hear that people can finally take notice of what's afoot, inspired from a little grass-roots forum.

There's way too much anti PL bias over there. They would think we're nuts. A standard PL whoops many amps on it's own, but the reputation is hard to overcome. Now actual press from an audio show, that would be different.

Thats it in a nutshell Nando. Out in the frozen tundra exposure is limited, but the word is getting out. I'm thinking one little 9 x 13 foot room for a couple days in Denver and a lot will get written of them, some good ,some bad, but one thing they will not be able to say is that they sound like shit...I'm thikin about leaving the faceplates off the first day...

I'd like to. :)

Too many audio jewelers out there.

I have no doubt that the Rowland is a nice amp, but...where do you spend the money to produce such products? I mean where do you put your dollars.

Don't get me wrong, if I could swing it, my stuff would be all milled billet too- ala Boulder Amps, but what does that really get you?

Steve said that 400 is a 5000.00 amp in today's market and if the 700 sounded anything like it---7,500.00, all day, every day...

Zach we are at the point in the noise floor where resonance can now be noticeable. Chassis resonance, can build and be injected into the signal path. I proved it a bit ago with the AP. Had a 700 in residual test mode and fired the K's up in the lottery 400. noise went from 180-200 uv to 350-400uv. And it was not at Mach8. Steve has his stuff on very heavy benches with those pointed weighty things underneath them, and weights on top of chassis covers
, I heard the difference. There is so much in the environment that affects the sound it's a wonder anybody can agree on anything...
