The higher you hang those speaker wires, the better resolution you'll get in the high frequency range. And yes - you guessed correctly - running speaker wires in the floor joists, or lower, is going to give you bass boost.

Run the tweeter wiring along the ceiling for "high frequency " response and run the woofer wiring along the floor for "low frequency!
