Lee, I would have thought that the heatsinks were drilled the same, just with the fins bent the other direction, no? It seems that engineers always find a way to keep the number of parts down and the reuse up, so it would have been expensive to have two sets of jigs, patterns, part numbers, etc. Maybe it has something to do with the wiring patterns on the back wall, I'll have to take a look at that.

Mark, I think you are onto something. That looks like just what I need to do.

Nope, that won't do it. That won't change the orientation of the outputs or drivers. In one row the outputs are on an uphill slant with respect to the leads. IN the next they are down. Bending the fins one way or another does not change that up/down orientation.

Went downtown today to get a little benchtop drill press for those times I don't want to go to the shop. A cheapie Ryobi, but I'm not drilling 1" thick 316 stainless either.

Going to the Rozet shop here in a bit where our shear and breaks are to make the final bend in two of the heatsinks. Kinda trepidatious about this. don't have much experience on a break(like NONE) , but hopefully we can figure it out without ruining the blanks.

They are not perfect, but they will wok. The problem was making the second bend I had to take out 8" of holdown on the break and put in a 1-1/2" square bar on the inside and c;lamp on the bar after it exited the heatsink. The clamping force and angle could not be duplicated and a little "wave" was introduced. So I came back to the Gillette shop and clamped em down in the 150 ton press and took a porta-power and tried to push the wave flat. Almost got all of it out. The seating surfaces are flat at least.

It has taken 3 hours of hand filing to get the mating surface flat enough to suit me. Still have another hour or so till they are done. Then the various grades of sandpaper to smooth em up. It may look anal but it really is critical that the surface next to the TO-3 bases is as flat as practical. The file is a brand new Nicholson mill bastard.

I'd be suprised if you didn't use the bastard file.

When I get the bending down to where I can get a consistent and repeatable look........maybe......
