I was given Rev B backplane Rev D assembly notes, it says nothing of the sort about different options. At least I can't find that in the notes.

I am hoping you followed the instruction step 27 which has you ONLY install 4 transistors in the bottom row for initial bring up and test.
The RevB release notes Perry, not the assembly notes.
Release notes describe the differences between the prior revision and a new revision or in the event of an original release, describe features, known bugs and workarounds.

No, but I am following step 28 that says use 2 Soldering irons to Remove the transistors.
That will likely be more difficult with the sockets in place. That hint was when it was just a clearance hole. In your case, the sockets may drop out with the transistor and stay on the transistor lead.

You made a good point about inexperienced people trying these but Joe attempts very hard to keep everything up to date. Not being a dick man but right on the White Oak site it clearly states the advanced kits are not for inexperienced builders. This is why I would not even try myself (my eyes don't help either). Once these are together it's all worth it. Joe is constantly improving these and provides updates
The problem is... many people don't opt for some things so that's what makes it so complicated with all the notes and BOMS and whatever. There is a build level for everyone from a light refreshing to a partially modded to a full blown firebreather like your looking at. Your attempting the full monty and I commend you. You have to expect some trip ups, especially the first time and learning on the fly
I just think you are being a little harsh with Joe, he's pretty much on top of stuff and nobody cares about this stuff like him. However, he is not a huge company like Panasonic that uses automation in assembly and employs 1000s of people including a segment just for publishing tech specs and assembly notes. This is a one man operation
Don't think I am ragging at you man LMAO!!!! You know how many times I threw a socket driver or wrench while working on vehicles LMAO!!!!!! It always looks easy in the book but in application, shit happens that sucks. When I get pissed, I am like a raging bull and take it out on others also so I know all about when your at wits end, pulling your hair out and venting LOL!!!!
I commend you man, you have the balls to attempt this and I have every confidence you will someday soon be able to kick back and enjoy the fruits of your labors

Replaced Q14 and Q15 (both shorted) on the left backplane. Powers up fine now.

As far as Not being for the inexperienced, how would you become experienced without trying? In the end, it was $15 worth of parts to get it up and running after the C2 failure. It took me a while but I chased down all the components that went bad.

Glad you chased it down Perry. Yes agree, experience is where it is at. Your second one should go much more smoothly now that you have that experience.

This amp is DEAD QUIET I am very impressed. Funny, my ceiling light dims when the amp is pushed... Hiroshima (the name of my amp because it's blown up in it's life with Aerosmith being the first ones to do it).
Well, that was short lived, Jammed for about 10 minutes, Q17 and Q18 just went along with C2, it was smoke and mirrors without the mirrors...I guess Ill throw some more parts at it tomorrow. Maybe some parts got stressed during the last episode.....

I gotta manage to get it running and keep it running. Maybe I shouldn't have thrown 4 ohm speakers at it yet.
You will find the culprit Perry. Check to see that the associated emitter resistors are still intact and did not blow open. That would be R45 and R46. Check that for the earlier failures as well. To push the amp hard, you need to have all outputs good and contributing. Blown emitter resistors will be silent failures but it leaves the surviving outputs shouldering the load.
If you plan on running 4 ohm speakers at high power levels, you should invest in a cooling fan to sit behind the heat sinks.
Yes, with the wiring scheme that is recommended, the amp is a black hole from a noise perspective.
You removed the Zoebel network on the DC protect board, correct???

Yeah, I took the 2 resistors and the cap off like Lee said. I'll ohm out the emitter resistors tomorrow, the left ones survived the firs one so I hope the right ones did too.
I'll hook up the 8 ohm speaks for future forays...

Should have been 2 caps Perry...one for each channel...but the caps are in series with the caps , so the resistors being gone will take the caps out of the equation...

Your almost there Perry!!! My CV's can dip a little low so when I crank the shit out of mine, I have a dual fan setup just to keep heat out of the deal. My amps have all been problem free except for Blackie and that was just shitty fuse holders. Once Jer changed them all to AGC types, have had zero issues

Yeah, I need to figure out a nice fan setup that don't look all Jankie. The originals were pretty cool looking and kinda looked like they belonged there. I didn't wire up the fan outlet but I'm going to when I open it for parts replacement tomorrow. Maybe I can find some original fans and resto them.

I know when I worked at a Ruggedized computer company, after building new units they went into burn in for 24 hours before they were put to the test. Maybe I should have went to burn in.
