Dazen’s Digest

I bet a few of us have been down that road, Daren - given up our record collections, then later try to rebuild the collection we had.

I'm sure that list is a long one Nando.

Thankfully, my name is not on it! I can only think of a handful of releases that I bemoan selling/giving away over the years.

It would be different if I had to make an inventory of all the records & CDs I regretted not buying at the time...

A page on the Sony CDP-101 which even after all these years, still looks good. The remote "commander" is reassuringly chunky.

I have the Sony DAS-702es DAC, from about the same era, shortly after the CDP-101, and it still holds its own against most DAC's today. At least, I compared it against a much more modern DAC at an audio meet, and the other DAC's owner thought mine sounded better, while I thought his sounded better. The build quality is impressive, and the thing weighs more than any of my amps. The only downside is restriction to coax inputs/outputs. I'm only now considering retiring it, in favor of a Blu-ray player.

Nice.

I guess some would say the 1970s, but I believe the 1980s were when the big Japanese manufacturers were at their zenith. Build quality and innovation were (mostly) exceptional on their top lines.

I hope you hang on to your Sony DAC. It might not have the flexibilty you crave, but it certainly is a cool looking unit.

Excellent!

Maybe not audio related (although Hans Zimmer's score is sounding fantastic in DTS 5.1....);

Watched this movie yesterday:

Movies like this are being watched here at home using the HD beamer that is installed on the ceiling of the livingroom to get the right atmosphere...
It brought back a load of memories from my youth, and simply stated: One to watch!

Miles: I will be buying the Blu-ray of "Rush". I don't think it became available, yet, around here. I just got my old Sony Digital 8mm Handycam up and running, yesterday. Once I find my storage case of 8mm videos, I may have some local racing clips to post. But everyone has to watch some of the family home videos, first, to get all geared up.

Nando.

Daren: I am almost positive the Voxmobile was a Matchbox model car I remember from when I was younger. if not, it might have been one of those George Barris creations.

Nando.

I used to have that purple Superfast Commuter Bus in the box a few years ago but traded it off. I am mainly a Hot Wheels freak but I do have some Matchbox left including a complete Club Kit from 1969. Most of the stuff in the images is 1965-'75

I am not gonna quote all the pics, but the stuff you show on them is very cool!

I have not seen Rush, but it is on the list of movies to see.

Love the Matchbox models too fellas.

After seeing the movie I grabbed one of the books written by Lauda from the shelf again to read back about how it really was at that time, and it turned out the movie is exactly the same as it was in reality...

The 1970s were a crazy time for F1.

I seem to recall the track at Zandvoort was particularly infamous.
