I've totally lost the plot....
I've been having a difficult time understanding my Clamp meter which at no time has gone over 0.5 Amp running both 7B's off the sdTX with the clamp just around the Active of the power cable feeding the TX !
My column oil heater draws 5 Amps. I would've thought these two 7B's would collectively at least draw 1.5 to 2 Amps with minimum music input.
I guess not.

Maybe you need to crank it a bit - might piss off the neighbors some - or use a load to test the current draw.

.... but that's a good thing.
At least it's good to know the power is adequate for the job.
no more worrying about the transformer nuking itself.

Don't forget that your 220 V 50 Hz goes backwards so at 110 it's way less than half - it's a Southern Hemisphere thing. :eek:

Also, run the clamp around ONLY 1 WIRE, if you cl;amp it around the two conductor cord the opp[osing phases will cancel each other. I know, in case you forgot.

.... and right now I feel like I haven't had a sh*t in days! Most uncomfortable feeling. Maybe a good f*rt would fix it. Better be careful..... don't wanna have an 'accident'. :happy4:

That 2nd one, I've seen that look before, when I got Bobby done all those years ago. Memory still haunts me. Thanx for reminding me D. :evil1:

my 7B's

I guess I need to replace the relays in my 7B's.
Awful noise on power down, so obviously the mute circuit is not muting.
To quote Bryston,
".... the older 'yellow' ones need to be changed for the black Ormon G5V of the same coil specs."
... which I assume they mean the 24V version.

Reasonably easy access to do the job, (see pic below), just need to find a cheap source locally.

Well, I've dumped the 7B's for now, in favour of my 6x EL84 amp....
It's funny how I always go back to it. It's just the nicest amp.
.... and perfectly suited for here (at listening levels of 80dB @ 3 metres, or even more if I wanted to!)
Of course the Crown D150 powered sub helps..... :laughing9:

(iMac -> DAC -> DBX Boom box -> DBX 119 -> JBL BX63A -> 2x 12AU7 -> 6x EL84 -> JBL L36)
( JBL BX63A -> Crown VFX2A -> Crown D150 -> JBL B380)

Just the bees knees..... :)

Footnote: (*note to foot)

Just realised that I don't need to add the VFX2 after all, as the BX63A (crossover for the sub) has an inverted AND a non-inverted output so I can use THAT to bridge my D150 into mono instead.
Awesome!

Note to other foot:

Done..... :)
