The Gepetto diode fix probably saved them. Without those in place, C6 would have toasted and the reverse emitter base voltage of 50+ volts would have finished the 5172s off

The protect board itself did not cause that problem. I don't know about Newark. Mouser is our go to people. Never got a counterfeit part from them yet.

Yes, the ON Semi is perfect. They are the best. The Multicomp will do although I have never heard of them as a manufacturer.

The output transistors are On Semi as well albeit 15024s, they should be better than the Delco`s in any case.
So there is nothing more that I can do until they get here?

Did you check that the bias adjusts properly now that you have things settled down?
