I ran quick test tonight, Internal GenMon vs a high quality XLR cable vs my el-cheapo XLR > RCA converter cables. I included the plot of it, the primary settings for the test are in the header. I could only run the RCA cable test from 20Hz - 50kHz due to the high output voltage setting so you'll...

    Audio Precision ATS Discussions

Yes, thats how the AP manual specs it is for XLR - RCA converter cables to have Pin 1 tied to shield and Pin 3 tied to the signal ground (not shorted to pin 1), however most cables or XLR - RCA adapters that you buy online have those 2 pins jumpered right on the XLR connector which meets the...

    Audio Precision ATS Discussions

Hi Lee, This is good info to have. A couple of observations. I'm assuming your BW is set for 80kHz LP based on the reduction in distortion above 50kHz? You should probably run a baseline scan with the input set to "Gen" or "Gen Mon" however the ATS1 specifies it. Do that with the cables...

Is My Weller WES50 Iron Dying

Yes and then on top of that they taunt you with that damned "Make Offer" button. Its like its calling out to you "Come on buddy, just make an offer, you know you need to add this gadget to your pile o krap!"

Is My Weller WES50 Iron Dying

I've replaced the pencil heater one time in the Weller WS80 and it was the heating element that opened up in it. The resistance measured high on the element. Have you measured the heater element resistance yet?

Is My Weller WES50 Iron Dying

I worked for National Semi for a number of years and we closed the production cleanroom down that I worked at back in 2010. One of the perks of being in the final equipment removal crew clearing everything out was that we got our pick of anything destined for the dumpster and I got a TON of...

Audio Precision ATS-1 on the bay good deal

Its also nice when you can upgrade for less than the selling price of your old gear.

Audio Precision ATS-1 on the bay good deal

It certainly looks like you got a steal of a deal. Which is always a good thing where the big auction site is concerned. That P1P looks extremely clean too. I have a feeling a lot of these AP testers spent their lives as shelf queens seeing little use.

Audio Precision ATS-1 on the bay good deal

Nice score! If the reset doesn't correct the issue then it might be a simple adjustment to fix it. If the P1P self test checks much the same things that the System One test checks then it might be something simple thats needs adjustment. The input CMRR seems to drift out on the S1 & S2 units...

Audio Precision ATS-1 on the bay good deal

Well that sucks! One of you could try popping the cover on your ATS and see if AP was kind enough to leave the part # for the display module intact. I'm talking about the actual LCD itself. You never know it may be an off the shelf part that many millions of them went into some piece of consumer...

Audio Precision ATS-1 on the bay good deal

Thats surprising! He's responded to me within 24hrs the times I've contacted him. In fact twice he called me instead of responding to my email or post on a thread for info. I got the impression he likes to talk and not type.

Audio Precision ATS-1 on the bay good deal

Those ATS-2's have been on there for quite a while. They were on there when I bought my system several months back. I had the same thought as you though about a group buy. If it was a smaller batch of them, like say 10, it might be possible, but 33 of them is hard to find enough interested...

Audio Precision ATS-1 on the bay good deal

No the S1's are no longer serviced by AP, so that is a caveat. However Duke @ Sound Logic LA is a prior AP engineer and provides service and support for all of these old legacy AP systems including the S1 & ATS-1. He also sells AP parts and refurbished AP systems. Although the ATS-1 can still be...

Audio Precision ATS-1 on the bay good deal

When I was looking I wish I could've found a thread where someone laid the pro's & con's of the different legacy AP systems out to compare. As it was it took a lot of late nights digging info up between the AP site and other folks posts across many forums to figure all of that info out. There's...

Audio Precision ATS-1 on the bay good deal

I've been using old analog analyzer's and a Quantasylum QA400 for years now and I've had my eye on the AP systems for a long time. I was able to score one for an amazingly low price off of the bay this past fall. I'm not sure how much of a hurry you guys are in or if you have your heart set on...

    Snubber / Safety Capacitor for a B&K EX 442

The thermistor you listed will not suffice. You need one that is rated for at least the same amperage as the main AC fuse. If you have a 10A fuse on the incoming AC then get one rated for 10A maximum current. To give you an idea, Mondial used an SG-150 thermistor on the 8008 amplifiers and .01uF...

    Snubber / Safety Capacitor for a B&K EX 442

If you're on 120vac wall power then I'd go with a .01uF/250vac X2 rated. In the old days manufacturers would've used a high voltage rated ceramic disc for this. You may have limited success with an arc suppression cap on the switch though. Does this amp have any inrush protection? Most amps...

Yes, very nice design. A lot cleaner than the old P2P wiring for sure.
