    BIG problems

Sorry for not posting in the right forum. Yes it`s the 700B, what kind of pictures would you need Lee? There is nothing visually obvious ,to me anyways. Like I said, I could not have been more careful when installing the board, I checked, doubled checked every step and re checked when all was...

    BIG problems

I just finished installing Dons output board, Dim Bulb test checked out, fire up the amp, relays engage after a few seconds, left channel was ok, right very distorted. Swap the left and right speaker input to relay board and there is no longer output anywhere. All B+ and B- 5amp fuses blown...

    Are these prices for real?

Excellent question. While there are no doubt companies still making quality amps, i.e. Bryston, more and more are choosing to manufacture in China (and not passing the savings on to consumers either) Couple that with surface mounted components using the lead free soldering process and the...

Before and After WO driver board mod

Thanks for the reply Lee. Can those differences be attributed to the re worked circuit design or to the quality of modern components? A cursory listening session on secondary speakers was all that was required following the acquisition of my bone stock 700B to see that it holds promise. I`ve...

Before and After WO driver board mod

Lets see if I got things right: My understanding is that the noise floor is lowered, frequency response extended and further flattened, more stability i.e. less likely to "latch up" along with yet more power which are all good things but I would be most interested in owners before and after...

    Are these prices for real?

I see the same thing happening with vintage JBL gear. Perhaps this phenomenon may not be as outrageous as it seems. With careful use and maintenance, those vintage units will likely go on functioning looong after the garbage being produced in China nowadays becomes landfill, making it money...

    Are these prices for real?

True. Seems like a nice unit but it will still take some time and money to get things up to spec me thinks.

    PL 700B "Laboratory Standard Amplifier"

Now that's an explanation, bravo. Even though the bulk of which is beyond my limited comprehension, it merits to be made a sticky, I`m sure it will be of use to someone in the future.. You made reference to a "Gepetto diode fix" Is that a mod that should be performed on any particular board(s)?

    PL 700B "Laboratory Standard Amplifier"

Pardon my ignorance but what is this "latch up" you are referring to and which model had which board?

PL700B manual corrections and cabinet instructions

I wonder why the power rating was downgraded from 450@8 730@4 to 400 and 700, new FTC ratings criteria perhaps?

"B"s. Are there more than 2 700B variants?

    PL 700B "Laboratory Standard Amplifier"

Aside from the reversed meter switch and knob indentations, how do they differ from the "Seven Hundred Watt R.M.S" version?

THE Service Bulletin Thread, if ya got em, put em here!

Moved to this thread as per Lee`s suggestion: I thought I`d scan a few documents that came with my amp. It appears my unit shipped with a model 700 manual hence the addendum. I can scan that too if anyone is interested.

PL700B manual corrections and cabinet instructions

That appears to be the case. Looks to be an early production model. Unless I`m misinterpreting the serial #, this unit is the 1848 produced in April of 1974
