    BIG problems

I measured the DC coming off the caps earlier and IIRC it was in the order of +85v 0v -85v Can the bridge still be defective?

5 XPL 909 1 RCA 410 There was at least 1 faulty transistor in each bank. What's the next move?

    BIG problems

I was considering that upgrade but not like this. I would sooner install a populated and tested board rather than dicking around with something beyond my comfort zone. It`s not looking too good with the output transistors either. Correct me if I`m wrong, but I was always of the impression...

    BIG problems

I`ll check those Sunday. Are you saying that if outputs are blown, there would be no upstream damage but blown drivers are an indication of upstream (driver board) nasties? As you can probably tell, I don't do much component level troubleshooting or repair. The idea of that kind or work...

    BIG problems

A big thanks to all who chimed in so far. I`ll post after my individual transistor test, looks to be labor intensive. Do I reinstall the ones that are good? Can grease and mica be reused?

    BIG problems

OK, the transistors on bank 1 that measure 11R are fine then. I`ll now remove all remaining outputs and drivers for out of circuit measurements. Will the same Collector to Emitter test be sufficient or should I do B to C and B to E as well? While they are out, would that be a good time to...

I stand corrected, out of circuit they measure good

OK, so unless specified to the contrary, the bulb shall remain in. I just discovered both channel D 14 diodes are shorted, do you still want me to put fuses in and measure DC on the output posts? You think it would be wise to disconnect the meters? I do not wish to ad to the casualty list.

Dumb question: should this be tested with the bulb in circuit? If you look back a few posts of my findings after replacing 5a fuses, all tests were made with bulb in place.

Hi JB, thanks for chiming in. I think I know which rail wire and TO3 mounting screw you are referring to: while close, there is no penetration, there is 1.3M between all XPL 909 and RCA 410 collectors to chassis. I`m not sure which diodes you are referring to, the 1N4004s?. I wish I had a...

    BIG problems

First off, thank you kindly for your input so far, you`ve no idea how much it`s appreciated. Please note that the board has been removed. The wire that was terminated to the cap buss bar is still in place and tied in with the 2 negative speaker terminal, white wire going behind driver board and...
