In Appreciation For The Lowly 482Z

Can't say I've ever heard a Classic transport deck. My reference is still the BX-300 with visibly worn heads.......

Dyson OnTrac. Dyson gets serious about cans.

His vacuums work great, but God help you if you have to fix one! Surely he can beat out Bose, I find their Products to be 'meh'.....

Just go back to tighty whiteys so you can stash the smokes and scare the neighbors, plus you might have room to spare for a subcompact pistol

Got some hum on playback. may have to check the lead dress on the wires going to the heads...... Could also be filter hum, filter caps tested in spec but you never know......

And it's finally off my bench! Next deck I wanna fix is the Marantz PMD-430. FF/REW don't stick (bent metal things) and the speed is wayyy off. I think I put new belts from Superscope in it in 2015.

Found it. The JB Weld job was sloppy, not letting the head block fall back in it's resting position and causing the guides to hang up on the cassettes shell. I've also gone thru and replaced all the high ESR capacitors, and the low value electrolytics with Wima films.

Yeah I'll take a look, I thought I might have bent something, but I'll probably pull that pinch roller arm off and double check. I think I have the loading tray put back correctly. I found a junk tape with a clear shell to notch out.......

The ff/rew idler wasn't clutching, so I pulled this guy off checked the felt on the back, cleaned the nylon wheel behind it with alcohol and got ff/rew back, reel brakes work now too, the spring in the back was not in

Almost! 90% there, brought back play, pause, ff, rew, This morning. Gotta figure out why the supply reel pinch roller is sitting to high and catching on the cassette shell.

Yeah I've been around the "no fun allowed" approach to audio related stuff, it's not for me. Learn to laugh at yourself every once in a while. and Grow. Thicker. SKIN! Kinda ironic coming from the participation trophy generation, gotta grow up someday I guess......

That's good stuff! I had to remove the supply reel pinch roller arm so I'm gonna have to line things back up.

I also gobbed some JB Weld on there good and it's holding that spring plate, and I put a little ball bearing under said spring plate. I'd have buttoned it up tonight but getting the capstan flywheel belt on is a pain in the dick

This looks like a supply reel tensioner to me.... little felt pad on that white lever touches a hub on the back of the supply reel, has adjustable spring tension

Great info! My TC-K71 looks identical mechanically. I think the K75 adds calibration tones and a ferrite+ferrite head instead of a Sendust+Ferrite head. I'm hoping to get away with just fixing the transport and replacing a few high ESR capacitors. This deck always sounded a bit dull but I think...
